Crown XTI 4002 "opening usb error"
« on: February 04, 2013, 02:55:05 AM »

Hi guys,

Thought this was the best place to post. I am coming up blank everywhere.

What I have:
Crown XTI 2000 running Yamaha S215Vs
Crown XTI 4002 supposed to run JBL MRX518s
NI Kontrol 1 running through a laptop using Band Manager (XTI 2000 picks up fine but XTI 4002 doesn't).

When I first opened Band Manager with my new XTI 4002 amp I got the error "Missing DLL files", so I checked Harman Pro for the dll files like it says. I can't find the files anywhere and found Band Manager 2 is required for the new XTI series 2. So I uninstall Band Manager and install Band Manager 2.. now BM2 doesn't detect either amps and I get the "Error Opening USB" message.

I've read on Crown/Hiqnet forums that in late 2011/early 2012 there were issues but are meant to be fixed. So I uninstalled BM2 and downloaded System Architect instead and I still get "Error Opening USB"

I have installed Windows .NET framework 3.5 as required and my laptop is a HP DV7 i7 with Windows 7 and latest upgrades.

Does anyone have any recommendations? the store I bought it from says to contact Crown directly but they are based in America & I'm in Australia.

Ron,
I have seen Windows scramble the USB driver for the Human interface device. The XTi shows up in Windows device manager as"HID-compliant device". If you uninstall this driver then reconnect the amplifier with System Architect on, Windows will reload the driver.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you. I will check this as soon as I get home from work. Looking forward to testing out the new Series 2!

Unfortunately not. I've uninstalled the HID-compliant device several times and still no go. I'll take a screenshot of the message that comes up.

When I connect the amp via USB to laptop Windows tells me its not recognized it.

Can I do a firmware update for the XTI 4002 without System Architect? I think I've downgraded it by accident using a older XTI version and using the CLoader program I found on this website. But the amp didn't get recognized before the downgrade.

No.  You must use either Band Manager 2 or System Architect.

Call Crown and ask for Kevin Gring.  If you get sent to voice mail call back and have him paged.

Tim,
'careful. Paging is not the answer. I will not hang up on a customer for a page :)

Sorry Kevin.... was suggesting that I have the best luck holding for you.  Something about Crown's VM systems sends messages into outer space, I think.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your help. I had tried it with Band Manager 1, Band Manager 2 and System Architect. All wouldn't work.

I have now found the issue.

It's a Windows 7 issue. After several hours of not getting it to work with the latest firmware on the amps, latest software for HiQNet and latest updates for Windows 7 and changing USB ports and USB cables. I finally decided to hook it up to a PC at home and installed System Architect and as soon as I connected the USB the drivers installed successfully and bingo found both amps.

Once I did the tunings and saved onto the amp I disconnected the amps and hooked them back up to the speakers with the laptop and no surprise but System Architect wouldn't detect the amps. So whenever I need to change the DSP on the amps I need to hook it up to my PC.

Hope this helps future Crown guys. By the way I love these amps! Just wish HiQNet would sort the Windows 7 issue out.

I'm interested to hear a little more about this.  What OS do you have on each computer?  Obviously Windows 7 on your laptop...  32 bit?  64 bit?  what about your PC, how is it set up?
