So Infocomm starts a week from today in Vegas.
Who's going?
What products are you interested in?
Of course the "off topics" (like video) have all the really cool things and get a lot of the buzz on the show floor (but most people can't afford what they are showing--------)
-
I will be there.
I am hoping to be able to get out of our booth and see some of the other booths that are around.
I know one thing for sure, I'm definitely going to be checking out Danley's Demo room.

I'm sure there will be plenty of those-and also all sorts of other new speakers and ideas/concepts.

I am like you-stuck on the show floor most of the time. But I do try to find a few minutes here and there-between walking between the show floor and the demo room to see things others are doing.
I do miss the days where I was able to spend all the time walking the floor and visiting many demo rooms. Oh well------------
Let's just say there will be "interesting" new things at the show---------- Products that nobody has heard and didn't exist a few days ago--literally :o
-
Think there will be some Facebook posts of the new things for people who can't make it?

OWI will definitely be there. We will be introducing 2 of our most popular products. Our amplified ceiling speaker with bluetooth capability and our Mercury Pendant speaker with subwoofer. www.owi-inc.com

I am sure there will be, from individual companies.

Not to nit-pick here, but how can a product be "introduced" if it is already one of your most popular products?

As am I. Maybe we'll hear it at the same time.
I'll be at the show, and definitely at the Danley demo room.

Oh man... I can't wait to see this!

There better be some news articles and/or video coming out real quick for the rest of us! The suspense is killing us.
-
I'm not going to Vegas, I'm STAYING in Vegas for InfoCOMM! ;D

Be sure to drop by OWI-INC's booth. We're looking to add a little flavor to the conference ourselves. We will be there promoting our new Mercury 360° Degree Pendant Speaker and our Amplified InCeiling Speaker with Bluetooth Capability and woofer.

Help me here. What is the intended usage/advantage of a bluetooth ceiling speaker?
-
Going...to see old friends, make new ones and see what is up in audio for live production, installs, etc. as well as video and lighting...
-
I'll be there Tuesday through Thursday. First time for me. Should be fun. --Frank

(CarnivalHawkerMode)
Y'all come on down and check out Professor Peavey's Amazing Torture Tests.
We will be busy breaking networks, drilling holes, and demonstrating lasers!
Also introducing the first networked edge device that uses BOTH CobraNet AND Dante!
(/CarnivalHawkerMode)
So yeah, come on by and say hi!

It all depends on what you are interested in.
What is a "must see" from some people doesn't mean anything to other people.
Every body has different aspects of the business they are interested in.
I will say that Danley has 9 new products since last Infocomm. Some VERY new-as in less than a handfull of people in the world have heard them-including Tom Danley and other employees-------
They will be at the demo room-along with some other things I can't talk about yet-before the show. But let's just say there is something really cool (or we think so anyway :) )
-
I'll be going Monday thru Thursday. Doing the CTS exam Monday, listening rooms Tuesday, training and meetings Wednesday and Thursday. I'm kinda bummed I won't have more time.

I'll be there Monday through Saturday. Checking out the networking seminar on Tuesday ...5 free DVS licenses!!!. I have vendor meetings jam packed wed-Friday and it looks to be an exhausting week.
I'm sure all the products worth seeing will be flooding the press releases between now and Wednesday.

Hey Tom,
Wouldn't the Matterhorn be better for distance?
And just a reminder, I think it's your turn to buy dinner this year.

I took the CTS exam a few years ago. It was probably the easiest test I have taken. Then I took the CTS-I...and that was even easier. I hear the CTS-D is a little tougher, but havent hit that one up yet.

Looks like some kinda Infra Uterine Device.

It's not uncommon to have someone "dancing" in front of the subs, but is that guy doing the chicken dance IN the sub?

Is that the Comically Unusual New Technology Sub?
All it needs is some rat fur applied around the opening...

We don't official specs yet-as the cabinets were finished up right before they were loaded on a truck to go to the show.
We will get more data after the show.
But a "quick estimate" is the real -3dB (as measured from the rated sensitivity) is around 23-24Hz -But don't hold me to that yet

At the demo, the BC218's even at moderate SPL drew cheers from most of the crowd. We're already looking at which projects to put them in.
The SBH family is also very impressive.

I too attended Infocomm for the first time this year and have to agree, the Danley demo room was among the best things I heard/saw. Never heard their products before and was extremely impressed.

While I didn't go to all, the Renkus Heinz room was my favorite this year. I am not sure what it is, but their products do it for me.

We took a different approach this year to the demo room.
We brought mostly new product-not the "standard offerings" that Danley is know for.
There just wasn't enough time to show all the products.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I did not have time to visit many demos-but did "stick my head" into a few.
What stood out to me is how bad the spoken word was in a number of rooms.
They just did not seem to care about that-yet that is one of the first things that gets my attention.
How natural is it? With music-we really don't know what it is "supposed" to sound like in many cases (except traditional instruments)-but with voice it is real easy to tell if it is natural or not-even if you don't know the person talking.
But I guess it all depends on what somebody is "looking for" in a product.
To me it is natural reproduction.
Don't try to sell me something when it is uncomfortable to listen to you.
But maybe that is just me------------- I am "different"--------

The one thing that many companies did which at first was kinda boring, but turned out to be really great...is playing the same tracks. It's makes comparing products and brands easier.

Side comment here...
It might be kind of cool if there was a way to stream high-quality music to the exhibitors so that there would be a standard reference point throughout the entire venue...you get a streaming box with XLR outs, and hook it up.
-

I have to agree. I'm sitting through some demos wondering why I would buy speakers from a company when their product is presented so poorly. It's hard to take the marketing guy seriously when they're pumping up all of their large scale installations and how well their products work and yet they're having trouble getting natural sounding speech to 50 people in a meeting room.

But not everybody want the same tracks. And they use different tracks for different products.
It is not a comparison, but rather an introduction to products and concepts.

Plus, aural memory is notoriously short lived.

Today with high quality audio coming from small portable devices, the serious tire-kicker should bring his own tracks to listen to. IIRC some already do. While half the time somebody at a NAMM show gave me a CD to play, they were pimping their CD, not really listening to the system.

One in particular was so bad that when I swung by mid demo I didn't make it past the door.
The only reason I might have stuck around would have been to hear the guy's voice unamplified to compare.

I'm with Matt on this one.
How hard is it for an audio company to get the spoken word right!
Very frustrating >:(

I have seen this from even the most respected companies out there.
And some things would be EASY to correct-such as the overloaded mic pre--------
I guess you are supposed to just believe what they are telling you-and not actually listen to what they are doing/providing.
-
I've probably been guilty of my share of that... Trade show demos are usually about showcasing some new products not always using the best system for the space. Sound rooms inside trade show booths can be horrible sonic spaces, and systems are generally operated by marketing types, better at talking that setting up systems. The character of a small sound room will change dramatically between empty and when the meat puppets are packed in like sardines. So even if set up right ahead of time, things change.
For several years I worked a booth where I had separate acoustic space next to a larger sound room with a window between us like a studio control room. I had a split off the snake and could run open mics through a console and studio monitors in my space. Trust me the band sounded a lot better in my room than in the live room. In my judgement more because of the room/gear than the operators. while I ran much lower SPL. Sometimes the demo is just physically impossible to get right. For years at Frankfurt, I would try to demo a recording console using a split from a live stage inside a sound room. Since I was out in the hall I had strict SPL limits that affected my mix. The LF bleed from the live band playing several meters away required me to get the rest of the mix level up to sound even... The sound polizie kept dinging me to turn down the bass, and I'd have to show them how it didn't go away when I tuned my system completely off. I'm sure the majority that walked by without stopping, thought I had sh__ for ears and did a bass heavy mix on purpose. 8)
Over the years I have experienced many operator errors from non-sound men running sound demos. Just because people work for a large equipment manufacturer does not automatically make them experts at operating that same equipment, even if their bosses think they should be.
This is no excuse and it does distract from the message.
