Title: EV SX250 heads up.
Post by: Douglas R. Allen on June 25, 2014, 06:33:49 PM
I see the SX250 is priced at $347 at Musicians Friends. (in their catalog that just came out )  A link to the speaker.

Not a bad multipurpose speaker. Monitor or small mains. I have 4 of the active SXA250's and they work well. Just a heads up if someone is looking for some monitors or small mains.

I think you mean $747.00 not $347. I would bet it's a printing error if it is.

No $347 is the price shown "" IN the catalog "" . Not sure why that price is on their page. They are $347 on 2 pages in the catalog.

Not really interested in the speaker but I was curious. This is what MF said

"It sounds like it could be a misprint. The price online is correct. What month issue was the catalog?"

Saw this yesterday myself in the new catalog and wasn't sure where the SX line fell as far quality so i went to EVs website and discovered it's no longer listed. Discontinued perhaps? As of this am it's $347 on the website as well.

Given the Original price is it safe to assume these are closer to the TRX in quality?

Discontinued passive speakers. Not the more expensive (but also discontinued) active version.

Correct. The real value of the cabinet is reflected in the passive price. Perfect for this years graduation parties and cookouts.

I have used the active version extensively.  No experience with the passive version, but I used them as:

Flown delay fills for corporates.
Stage monitors for non-rock level shows.
Front fills/out fills on real shows.
FOH for small gigs, or larger gigs not requiring a lot of output (jazz for 500 on a patio, for example).

They are far, far better than TRX.  Solid wood construction, nice steel grill, etc.

I think these are an insanely good value at $299 plus free shipping.  If nothing else, it should be a great monitor upgrade for clubbers with questionable monitor rigs.
