A quote:

"But I am alive and I’m grateful for that. Please don’t worry about me. I’m sure I can cope just fine. If I need your help, I promise I will ask.
Life is all about playing the hand that is dealt you. Actually, I would love somebody to deal me another hand right about now – in more ways than one."

Man, I wish I could be that brave.

"A shark attack would be interesting. An assassination attempt would be intriguing. Skydiving mishaps always make for good copy. An out-of-control quad copter that turns on its master would be entertaining (and would come complete with a grim, potentially viral, video).

No, the reason I am now one-handed is a little more prosaic than those scenarios."

Most accidents are mundane and prosaic. Few people ever throw out their backs saving a child from a runaway dump truck; most of them do it putting their socks on in the morning. (I did it once looking at the moon.)

Still, you never know when life is going to deal you a blow. Difficult as it may be, we have to pick up and move along. Life is too short to spend it wallowing in misery. In every trial there is a blessing; search for it. Make the most of what you're given.

This is what's known as the "crush syndrome" where muscles attached to skeletal features (arms, legs) are damaged and their dead cells give byproducts/toxins that get into the blood stream.   Sadly, all it takes is some saline through IV lines to remedy if treated early enough.
