Well that's what the manual says.... would they lie?  http://www.mackie.com/products/dlmseries/pdf/DLM8-12_OM.pdf

Of course near the end is says 250W of ac power goes in... it must be magical.

Also the -10 dB is 35hz which makes me wonder what the -3 is, not to mention a phase and frequency response plot... Oh well, perhaps I am spoiled by real speakers.

Other than his claim of these being "the most powerful speakers made" the ad looks legit, because we all know that the included amp power in an active speaker is mostly irrelevant.. it's the long term SPL that it generates with the included drivers that really matters. Right?

Not much of a discount for what are, in essence, used speakers now, unless they're still NIB. If he paid cash, and went to a big box store, I am surprised that he wasn't able to talk his way down from list a bit. His "I paid this!" rates are -- amazingly enough, the MSRP for the respective boxes. *shrugs*

I should A/B those against my VRX and see how they compare. </snark>

If the fine people on this forum hadn't set me straight about wattage and SPL, etc when I first started posting  here not that long ago I might have been one of the poor fools who bought these.  IMO the majority of people being marketed to in this price don't know any more than I did, and I had been playing in bands and running sound on occasion for over 30 years before anyone explained to me that wattage didn't really mean anything.

I agree that my knowledge has increased substantially since I started reading this forum. However, I always knew that RMS rating was much less than Peak. Probably because I grew up in the UK and peak wasn't ever really referenced out there. When I moved to the US I kept hearing peak and quickly learned the difference. Probably saved me some mistakes along the way.
I now realize, like yourself, that SPL is of far more importance in decision making  and I thank everyone here for the teaching they impart to those of us who want to learn.
This was the main reason I posted in the other forum because although I was making fun of the ridiculous claims in the ad, there is again something to be learned especially by those who may not have been doing this very long.

Mackie calls it "system power," whatever that means.  I'd guess peak power.  Max SPL peak for DLM12 top is 128dB @ 1m.

If you drop it from your incorrectly-rigged fly point onto a sufficiently hard surface (such a bass guitarist's head), you will probably achieve 1000W of power output.
