Title: New RCF ART 745a's?
Post by: Richard Penrose on May 07, 2014, 06:26:26 PM
Hi,

I noticed today that RCF have recently released an new speaker to their 7series :-

The specs of this speaker look very impressive indeed. Both the horn and woofer have 4" voice coils and the maximum SPL has been increased. To top it off, the speaker is now around 5kg lighter than the previous ART725a model!

I have to say this looks like it could be a great speaker and am very keen to hear it at some point! My only complaint is that it doesn't have a built in crossover to use with an external sub!

Hi All,

After all those years, finally something in the same price range as the EV ZX5A, that gets louder and sounds better doing so ????

on paper it gets a vote of "meh" googling it yields a street price of 1300 EUROS, still just looks like yet another 700 watt 15"/1.5" speaker on a stick

woofer is 3.5" VC

I'd guess most buyers would be speaker on stick users or installers looking for a full range box that was solid down to 50hz.

I have never seen a plastic box like it.  It’s got a very large 4” diaphragm compression driver crossed at 650Hz! Most a have small 1.75” drivers crossed at 1K2 to 1K6Hz. With the components they have used, it’s got some serious potential for a plastic box.

I suspect the HF driver is similar to this one.

I found pricing on a store in England, and it seems to have the same price as the ART-725MK11. It is also lighter (neo versus ceramic of the 725MK11).

Looks good on paper , waiting for the ZX5A/ ART-745 comparison !

Thought I'd bump this to see if there are any user experiences with these yet?

Hope if you don't mind if I re-bump this again.  Really interested to see what these boxes sound like.  My buddy just purchased a new set of dB Tech DM12th's with a 1.4" exit/2.5" VC HF which blew my mind, so I'm really wondering what this big ol' 4" HF driver will sound like

I demo'ed one the other day. It sounded excellent to me. Smooth high frequency well balanced with the lows, no hyped response that I could discern. I didn't have a ZXA5 out of the box to compare them side by side, but it wouldn't surprise me if this was very close in output. No, it's not a 50 Hz box, but it is solid down to 60.

98% of the time the boxes will be used with subs so really the response down that low isn't super important.  We had the same feeling from the new dB monitors, they're a whole new level from the old ones, and they sound great out of the box.  If the ART 745's would give that same feel it would be worth a try for mains I would say.
