Title: Qu new
Post by: g'bye, Dick Rees on January 20, 2014, 09:47:49 AM
Marty America told me about the NAMM release of "something" new for/with the Qu-16 on the 23rd.  Curious as a cat and hoping that whoever first learns anything verifiable will post it here.   It would seem that it would be fairly major rather than just a tweak or two now that pretty much all the promised features have been accomplished with V1.2.

Of course if it's full implementation of the AR2412 I'll be stuck looking for the $$$ to get the stage box...

The price of a Qu16 + Ar2412 is getting close to a GLD80 with a free AR2412, well, within 2K anyway.

I'm pretty sure they are announcing expansion of the line with a 24 and a 32. Looks like they are going to go head to head with x32 for not much more $$$. There have been rumors of this for a while and that's what I think is going to happen. It's also time for a ILive update but I think they are a ways off on that although I wish it would come by summer.

I hope this is the direction they're heading. Even better if it's physically the same size as the current Qu-16.

Good point maybe even a QU32 and a QU32 compact!

Never thought I would hear it in that order ;)

This, especially "compact" versions in racks, with good wireless interfaces, strikes me as the wave of the future.

Still trying to scrape together cash for a QU-16...

Best regards,

John

Looks to be a QU-24 according to Allen & Heath Facebook page.

That's a great looking mixer with features up the kazoo. I still like my Expression user interface much better, but have to wonder why Soundcraft stayed away from USB recording. Nice desk with a decent channel count and very flexible.

I guess this kind of dashes the hope of an "expandable QU16".
Any word on an offline editor?

QSC stated at the release of the QU-16 that it can not be made expandable.  Not to say they wouldn't release a QU16E.

Why is QSC commenting on an Allen & Heath product???

In re the Qu-24:

Now if it would only fit in a 19" rack mount...

Ha, had that little QSC mixer on the brain.  A&H of course stated that.

That is the down side to me !! The QU16 is so easy to transport in the case and sits real nice on a 12 u. Also, not sure I could justify the extra cash - I believe I already have what I need..... (I still love it !)

Granted, THAT IS EXACTLY what A&H stated on the release of the QU-16: No expansion.  I do know there was a lot of chatter and wishful thinking otherwise on this forum.  I was just confirming the sight of the last coffin nail being pounded home.

What coffin?  If you need 16 channels, buy 16 channels.  If you need 24 channels, ditto.

I just love it when someone complains that a 16 channel board isn't a 32 channel board...

Dick,
You misread, I fear.  The "coffin" I mention is an allusion to the ideas, wishes and hopes of others for expansion (ala the 01v) posted here before (to which you have made similar comments).  And yes, the new 24 channel puts those ideas to bed... permanently.

Finally, no one can reasonably ask, ponder, beg, speculate, second-guess, hope for, wait for, (etc) any word of expansion of the QU-16 - comments about which seems to be a particularly bothersome bee in your bonnet.

No complaints here about the direction A&H decided to go with separate form factor mixers - especially as the QU line is their (I hate to say as QU is so nice) entry mixers.  A 'nod' to the analog idea of one fader, one channel (more or less).  Much better workflow on the A&H than the 01v, for example.

I'm really on your side, Dick.

A question to those of you who were at NAMM, or who are better 'connected' than I am;  any information as to what the street price is expected to be on the Qu-24?

Chuck Levin's got 3 QU-24's in Tuesday night.  I bought one and there is one left as of this moment.
