Title: Fun speaker hang of the day
Post by: Joseph D. Macry on May 07, 2014, 11:14:59 AM
A locally owned sub sandwich shop has four speakers hung like this. They've been there for at least six years, and haven't fallen yet, but I try not to sit in the booths under them.

Shame on the building/fire inspector.  After six years, the blame is on them too.

Call the city inspector's office and tell them...unless you're getting sweet deals on subs. ;>)

I'm an installer, not the installation police.
FWIW, the sandwich makers don't wear hats nor hairnets either.

Neither do I when I prepare my food.  I think it's possible to be too paranoid over some things.

Speaking of paranoia, there is a new company doing the street cleaning in our town and now the people sweeping the streets look very comical wearing hard hats.  As far as I know, there has not been a problem with people dropping grand pianos and anvils out of windows so I have no idea what the purpose is.

That part of Austin must have the best inspectors money can buy (off).  I used to live there; care to divulge the identity of this eatery?

The inspector sez: Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.

Steve.

I had to do the same working for various home builders. It's an insurance rate issue.

10lb speakers, 500lb chain, 200lb grid wire from frame to roof truss. I'm OK with that. I'll be in Round Rock next week. Can I go there for a sub?

Thundercloud Subs at I-35 and 290 East.
I haven't worked food service for some years; perhaps the laws on hair control have been loosened. I like the food and the people, and I've never found a hair in the food. Nor am I really worried about the speakers falling; I just think it looks hilarious from an installer's point of view.

Bob, email me at [email protected]; we can have a sub together while sitting under the Pioneer.

Perhaps you like this hang at NeWorlDeli better.

I remember eating somewhere in Austin where the dude behind the counter was bald, but had a huge beard. They made him wear a hair net, but nothing on the beard....  ::)

Now that one scares me.

Let us know their response when they see you wearing your hard hats at the table. For good measure, wear safety glasses and fluorescent, reflective vests, too.

Since we're in the bash-the-local-eatery mood...I present to you this TV hang at a local Italian eatery:

That does not reflect well on their engineering skills. Might want to monitor the situation. And the base looks a little soupy.

brand new DB technologies hang by "professional" installer

photos are just fair, old phone.

plywood scabs screwed to ceiling with wood screws, hardware store rolled lag eye screws,

looks like 3/32  cable but its looped around then the whip end folded back on itself. appears to be a 3/16 wire rope clip with about 4 layers under it, and yuuuuup those are carabiner clips on the top end of each wire and 1 speaker is tilted about 5/8" left to right. not pictured. subs are in corner aimed directly at band not audience.

Tim,
I've been in round Rock for two weeks now and had wanted to try and meet up with you. Wish I could have made that happen.

Bob, if you're still in town tonight (Friday), I'm performing at Kick Butt Coffee Music & Booze in north Austin, 7:30-11:30pm. They know me as "Pinetree" there. The sound system will not be impressive, except for maybe the two overpriced Tannoy mains. But the music will be way cool.
