It's 10 degrees out right now. Supposed to get down to 3 over night.
Did I mention that I'm traveling to Michigan this week where the high is supposed to be 5 degrees and a low of -7 when I get in on Thursday?
Not sure I've ever been in weather this cold. Maybe the Great IcePocalypse of 2007. I don't really remember.
-
-15 deg F now headed to -22 according to NOAA
-
7deg F in S.W. Connecticut.

7F here in Northern Ohio. It has actually ticked up was 3F at midnight.
The cold air is being reinforced and Friday supposed to see -5F ambient.
This has been a long stretch of cold. I passed on the New Year's gig and hung by the fire with NY family. Mom leaves tomorrow not sure how many more holidays we will have together.
Peace friends

These temps are not really that cold.
Once below -32C THEN you can say it's somewhat brisk! 8)

-30c. I converted it for y'all.

Last night it was a balmy 74 degrees...

It was a delightful 60 F when I walked out of my gig this morning at 1:30 a.m. This was the last of 12 nights in a row (thank goodness). The rest were all outside where the coldest it got was 65 F. But I did have to work up a sweat during setup when the temps were in the mid-80's during those same 12 days.
Life sucks here in Florida! It's a rough job, but someone's got to do it. But of course, with all of the tourists here now, it takes me twice as long to get to my gigs than normal.

It's up to 15º and I'm inside babysitting, but my daughter and son in law are at the Winter Classic hockey game at Citifield. Sitting in a baseball stadium watching a hockey game is probably pretty damn cold. At least the Rangers are up 2-0 after period 1.

It's 12 degrees right now. Supposed to get up to a balmy 18 today.
This is an odd cold snap for this part of the country. Usually when we get this cold, it's accompanied by some pretty severe precipitation in the form of ice or snow. The fact that it's just cold dry air is really odd, and I think, dangerously, deceiving for people.
We just got a call from the school. I guess they are pushing the start of the semester back to Wednesday because of the severe cold because they don't want the kids standing out at the bus stops when it's 10 degrees out.
-
This Saturday night we're playing on Shepperton, Australia. The forecast is for 43 Celcius. You might call this 109f.
I hope the venue air-con is up to the job!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180101/7baf9021439099380be7bb11a230a4af.jpg)

The sad part is that there are a lot of families around here who don't HAVE the right clothes. For whatever reason, they don't get heavy winter coats for their kids. You'll see kids out walking around with just a light jacket and shorts on while it's snowing. Not sure if they just can't afford it, or they are clueless as to proper winter clothing or what.

They're just too cool to bundle up. Only little kids put on multiple layers.

Huh? I have four layers on. Allows you to adjust for your body temp. As I was cleaning off deck I eventually had to unzip both top layer (Heavy butt length Car

Cool stats! How do you get the data into the Raspberry Pi? Wifi thermometers?
8F this morning in central North Carolina. Nippy for these parts. But, from my historical perspective, any day above zero (F) is bearable.
That said, our heat pump is of no help below 30F or so and the output from the gas furnace leads to higher fluctuations of inside temps and much dryer air.

Nearly the coldest day in history here in Niceville :) 21deg F

Dave
I just use the basic ds18b20 one wire sensors for the temp. My houses existing land line cat5 wire worked great for getting sensors into various places. Data goes into a MySQL database which is then pulled by the highcharts website scripts.

Here in the coastal Pacific Northwest last week we had several days 35-45 °F and raining with 99% humidity.
Impossible to stay warm if you're outside for any length of time. -20 °F is much more tolerable. Your extremities might get cold, but at least you can keep your core warm by layering up. Cold humidity seems to suck out your body heat like nothing else.

My folks were married on December 27, 1958 in Clatskanie, Oregon. The weather that day was like I describe above. My Dad's mother came out from the North Dakota prairie for the wedding. She said she'd never been so cold in her life.
-
Wait, isn't raining the definition of 100% humidity?
-
Wait, isn't raining the definition of 100% humidity?
Not necessarily.
100% humidity is the point at which the air becomes saturated; it cannot hold any more moisture. Typically, fog/clouds form at 100% humidity, though moisture can condense on dust particles in the air when the humidity is lower than 100%. And 100% humidity doesn't necessarily mean rain, if the fog isn't condensing enough to make the droplets heavy enough to overcome air currents and fall as rain. And you can have rain coming from clouds high in the sky, falling through air that is well below 100% humidity.
But, yes, 100% humidity typically results in rain.
-
This week will be 4-10º F warmer than normal in the northern parts of Behind the Zion Curtain.™

My house is so confused. I woke up this morning with the furnace running downstairs and the AC running upstairs.
Typical day of winter in Houston.

Hey Nathan,
I was stationed at NAS Milton for 4 years after Vietnam. It's always cold for a couple of months down there through January and February. I owned a 22' Searay at the time, put it in the water one February, hauled ass down the Blackwater river and hit ice. Slid on the ice for about a 1/4 mile, outdrive kicked up and slowly turning in a circle. Also the best dove hunting area in America.

I grew up in Oregon, then lived in Saskatchewan, Minnesota, and now Chicago. The one time I got dangerously cold internally - Oregon, just above freezing, humid, windy. Cold enough shivering stopped and I stood, numb, for about 30 minutes in a garage before I could unzip jackets and go inside. Coldest temp I was outdoors was -56 F, plus about a 20 MPH wind. It didn't feel cold as much as it simply felt "dead".
Happy for the few days anymore below 0.

Yup, it's a strange cold; feels much 'colder' than the weather in places like Denver Colorado (the only northern territory I have for comparison) during the winter!
We had ice/sleet a couple of years back, I drove home after studying all night; was 'fun' sliding around ;)
Amen! Great fields!

Zero F now; -15 F predicted overnight, so not too bad. A heat wave is predicted starting tomorrow, up into the high teens and low 20's above for highs during the week.
I hope you get your heat back on soon, Bob, before you folks get hit with the nasty storm they are predicting for the East coast.

not really. it is 7° C right now, or mid 40s for americans. We might get snow next weekend, but the last months have been warmer than typical

It warmed up to the mid 20s today. I had a salamander aimed at my Bobcat most of the day to warm up the fuel tank. Till today, the line from tank to pump was froze. Got it running and the forks on. Now waiting on a delivery. Then back to bucket for tomorrow.

I now live in southern mid. TN. I grew up in Jersey. Done what you are doing Rob. Get the tractor running in prep for snow. Monday was 9 here, warmed to 24. pretty cool for here. My massey 135 will start without help down to 30 ish. My ford 250 diesel does need a good battery charge to get going. My 85 Mercedes does not care how cold it is. These temps do suck but at least here it does not last long. Everyone should have backup wood or coal heat. I do remember in the70's one week the warmest it was when we walked the school buss was -7, rest of the week was -15 or less. I may move farther south next time. Everyone stay warm and remember you pets. KC.

Finally have heat, but have been out of work all week, going back tomorrow.
We went through 3 burner oil pumps. First pump failed out of the box, second pump failed the next day, third pump failing after a few hours. Turns out they were all rebuilt pumps from China. I finally lost it and made the tech use a new pump from Carlin (Sun Tech) which is working fine. Does Behringer make oil pumps?
Then because of the no heat I had a frozen oil line, water pipes, baseboard pipes, etc.. In the end I have replaced the Xtrol tank, back flow preventer, blow off valve, 40' of oil line from tank, line regulator, 4 oil pumps, one nozzle, one section of baseboard, and I don't know how many feet of copper pipe. I throw it all back on the oil pumps. If they hadn't failed I wouldn't have been without heat for most of 6 days off and on.
The snow has just started here and we expect 16+ inches and I've tried to start the truck which hasn't been run for a week, dead battery. Now I'll go check the generator and snow blower. I know the snow blower will start, it's an Ariens 15hp Pro 28. The genny? Haven't used it in 6 months.

Last fall I purchased and installed a large dial outdoor thermometer on the concrete retaining wall outside our kitchen window, and it's working REALLY WELL. Currently it's 32 deg. outside according to that thermometer, as it's been for a couple weeks now. Some of my neighbors have complained off and on about the bitterly cold temps where they live... zero and some below... but here at my house the winter temps have stayed consistently pleasant in the 32 - 40 deg. range. I'm hoping that thermometer works as well this next summer... when my neighbors are complaining about the relentless heat... maybe it will be nice and cool at my place. :)
-
It is currently -2 where I am outside of Flint, MI. Supposed to drop to -7 over night. Glad I get to be inside for most of my short stay here. Hopefully the snow and freezing rain will hold off until after my trek home Sunday and Monday. :-\

Or is there an even worse SyFy made for TV movie about a snow hurricane that I'm thinking of?

I went out about 10pm last night Rob. The Ariens started without a glitch, but had to change a shear pin half way through. Got almost to the top of the hill by the porch and fell on the ice, not once but 4 times. Last fall knocked me out and I woke to my wife standing over me. If I didn't have bad luck I would have no luck at all.

Geez! You were lucky she showed up. I was able to clear the driveway last night(and again today.)
Much less adventurous than your experience! The worst I did was modifying one of the pathway low-voltage lights with the auger - oops!

Glad your poodle eater started right up!
It has been sub zero for two weeks here in central Wisconsin.
Daytime highs of zero degrees F and night time temps of -15 to -20 F.
Sunday we will hit 30 degrees. I am so waiting for that!

So cold here that my DNA20K4 amp would not fire up.....kept getting a temperature error. Had to put a heater next to it for while. And the blower motor in my trucks heater froze. Luckily the windshield was clear for my drive and leaving it running for an hr or so unfroze it. Fingers-so-cold.
