Title: What ideas do you have for a personal audio/RF/comms touring workbox?
Post by: Pete Erskine on March 13, 2014, 09:27:21 PM
I want to have one made and am looking for ideas.

some requirements:
1. No bigger than a double rack, possibly swing open single racks and about 18 RU high, comfortable table height while standing.
2. Drawer for Laser printer, label printer and network hardware
3. Small rack rails for an RF DA and Shure spectrum manager
4. Internal power distribution and paths for wiring from bottom to top
5. Some sort of fold out desk height table which does not get in the way of drawers
6. integral lighting for drawers
7. Adapter drawer with dividers
8. external power outlets
9. Integrated storage for second Monitor, Maybe in back of one of the racks at expense of drawer depth.

Please feel free to add ideas or show pictures of your workbox.

You could do a double-width version of this, drawers on one side, 19" stuff+printer and more drawers the other side:(http://www.kwcases.dk/Skuffeskab/Skuffeskab_klap_1_small.gif) and then use the front lid as a worktable, with some sort of screw-on legs.

As far as lighting goes, I love this stuff: http://www.ledsupply.com/led-strips/led-flex-strip-white

PS - it would be interesting if you talked about your use of the Shure spectrum manager (assuming you're talking about the AXT600). It's a pretty cool piece of gear even apart from the Axient system.

Hi Pete,

Here a couple of pictures I have seen that might give you some ideas:

The first is from Riedel:

Only thing I could think of adding to the list is an external IO panel for more than just power. I'm a big fan of concealed wiring.

And I would like to recommend Case Craft in Las Vegas for your fabricator. A buddy just got a custom case made and it's a thing of beauty. They could probably design the case for you based off that list.

Hi Pete,
The first is from Riedel:
The second is from Transmission Squelch:

I have considered the flip up top with monitor.  Both of these cases are sitting table height.  I usually am standing on a gig so a higher table is nice but when everything is going the sitting lower table is good too - something which combines the 2 maybe.  External I/O and power is a good idea, especially if the case needs to be closed for the night.  Care needs to be taken to protect it in shipping - maybe a door.

Some lockable drawers are a nice idea.  Here is a very nice one: thewombforums.com (http://thewombforums.com/showthread.php?t=14418)

And a selection of some which gave me a lot of ideas: Production Box (http://www.rgbcases.com/pricelist/productionbox.html)
