Title: Low recording sound
Post by: Forrest Morris on February 11, 2014, 01:51:39 PM
We recently replaced our CD recorder that hooks to our Peavey RF600 mixer. The new CD recorder is a TEAC CDRW890. After installation, I tested the sound input (onto a CD) from the speaker podium. When I played the CD recording back, the sound input is very low. And I had the volume on the CD player turned all the way up. I have set the controls on the new recorder input as high as they will go and the sound is still low when played back. Note: With the old recorder that we replaced, the recorded sound was fine.

Is there something that I am missing, or is there something on the Peavey mixer that I can do to increase the sound input to the recorder/

Thanks for any help.

Can you describe the connections you are using from the board to the deck - both physical and any settings - i.e. +4/-10 switches, etc?

I am not a technical person regarding sound equipment. So you may have to ask me some questions regarding the setup.

I have four RCA type plugs on the front of the Peavey. Audion in and out (I believe they are called.) I hooked those into the back of the TEAC recorder to the same connections.

Sounds like you may need to check and ensure that mixer audio out is going to CD recorders Audio IN.
This should be -10

Can you provide the Mixer model number.

Play back should be cd  RCA output to mixer input for playback.

You may need to raise the output level on the mixer,  This may require a reduction on the amp.  Does the mixer send the main outputs to an amp and speakers to be heard in the room?
