I pick up a handful of sound jobs a year using Thumbtack. Saw this in a recent request for quote today. Really?

Give all of the attendees wireless headphones. :) That’s how they did the sessions on the show floor at AES.

And raves on beaches.

Prefer not to have to speakers
Maybe it's just a typo and it should read.. "Prefer not to have two speakers", which would be reasonable for a small speaking event.. only 1 speaker necessary.

...or perhaps "too many" speakers. In any case, it does bring to mind a famous phone request that came in back during my sound company days:
Caller: "Hi, I'd like to rent a wireless microphone."
My assistant: "Sure that's no problem, will you need any speakers with it?"
Caller: "No, the microphone should be loud enough." ::)

Here you go

I did a gig once in which the venue lost power.
The guy in charge wanted to make an announcement.
I told him that he could not without power.
He said that is why he rented wireless mics, because they operate on BATTERIES-----no AC power needed.
Alrighty then

Does not work in O-F-F position.

Duh. seems obvious now. My brain must have just ignored the second "to".
But in fairness I have had legitimate requests for the wireless mic/ no speaker thing.

When I worked for a local sound company, our rental manager had some version of this conversation at least once a week.
Customer: The Wireless mic you rented us doesn’t work.
Rental Manager: is the microphone turned on?
Customer: yes
RM: is the receiver plugged in and turned on?
Customer: yes
RM: Are they both on the same frequency?
Customer: yes
RM: okay, what kind of sound system is it plugged into?
Customer: Sound System?

LOL!
Well, in all fairness, he *could* have had it plugged into a Tascam DR-40 just to record the audio.

I worked at a nearby college for 6 years and had an admissions officer ask me if I had a wireless mic she could carry around campus while she gave tours so she wouldn't have to speak so loudly. I said "Sure, who's going to carry the sound system?". Blank stare.

I offered my megaphone, but it was a Mackie and she said only a Meyer or D&B were acceptable options.

A missed opportunity. It even has a wireless option.

The Tour Guide type systems have been around for a long, long time and back in the day I recall Anchor, Sennheiser and maybe a couple others making them.

Unfortunate brand name choice for a portable system.

I was poking around in my city's PA store today and three guys came in looking to buy a mic for karaoke. Same story as this thread; they thought the mic was all they needed.
Budget was $200.

I’d like to buy a steering wheel please.
Barry.

Did she say if it was a woofer or tweeter she wanted? None of them are speakers at the D&B website and i do not think any of them will have problem to be Heard by 70 people. Of course it might be harder to understand :D
