Title: Bridging Crown 802D?
Post by: Michael Kim on March 31, 2014, 10:12:13 AM
Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody has experience bridging the Crown 802D power amp.

I am reading conflicting things in the manuals. In manual 1, it says to connect a single XLR to channel 1.

In manual 2, it says the Crown 802D requires a XLR y-cable to bridge.

Can anyone speak to which of these works? (Or if both??)

Manual 1: http://www.crownaudio.com/media/storagebk/pdf/amps/139441.pdf

Manual 2: http://www.crownaudio.com/media/pdf/legacy/133465-6.pdf

Thanks all!

Crown technical support got back to me. Apparently, they released two versions of the power amp, one with the bridge switch and one without. The one without requires the y-cable.

The one without requires the y-cable.

It requires a special Y cable with pins 2 & 3 reversed on one connector.

There were three version of the old XLS series. The final version was the "D" version which included a bridge-mono switch. This version did not require an inverted  input Y cable. The XLS802 was the only available in the later D versions.
