This is a represenitive connector found in a new install. Please give a little comment on the workmanship and how this works compairs to industry standards you work by.

My first thought was that is shit, but a better word is "unacceptable".

I'd be expecting the installer to be returning to re terminate the lot.  At their expense.

Or maybe they charge for every service call-----So it could be a "good business decision"

Not only unacceptable due to the exposed stripped wire but also the length of the untwisted pair.

Unacceptable.  Shouldn't be any exposed copper.  The wire should also be secured with a zip tie to the phoenix plug in the cutout at the end of the tab.  I'd also put some clear shrink around the drain wire.

That's not just a thumbs up/thumbs down on the workmanship, that is a short hazard and if all the connections are like that then down the road you will have problems. Get them back and have that re-done.

Pinch it together and see what happens?

All terminations should be able to "handled". You shouldn't have to worry about seperating copper strands after you plug something in.

If that was a last minute emergency repair without the right tools it would be fine.  Otherwise, every termination that looks like that should be done again.

I just wanted to thank you all for the responses. It allowed me to make a very strong point. I have allways tried to do it right, this this was a perfect example of doing it wrong!

Absolutely, positively NOTHING can justify this horribly incompetent work. Period.
