Title: Mic Cable Installation
Post by: Ryan Saunders on December 31, 2008, 03:21:21 PM
The church I work in currently uses a LS9 at FOH and has a 24 channel snake with stage box on the stage running to FOH.   I would like to install floor boxes on the stage and make cable runs to FOH.

It seems like an unnecessary expense to have a patchbay installed since we can assign any input to any channel on the LS9.  Is it generally acceptable to run the mic inputs in the stage boxes directly into the console and then select an input from the console?

I tell churches NOT to do that.  I prefer the hard patch in the back of the console.

The reason is that in most churches there are several different operators and things can get confusing when using the "soft patch".

But if everybody knows about it and how to use it, then it would be fine.  It's just that a lot of the operators I run into in the church market would not understand how to do it.
