Ok... complete newb when it comes to video (but been around a long while when it comes to sound) so PLEASE bear with me.
I'm thinking of putting together a video rig to go with my live bar band sound/lights production.
It would be a couple TV's (32"?) with video from 3 or 4 static video cameras an additional video source (computer HDMI out?).
I'd like the screens to select the different display sources somewhat randomly.
My question is, what would I need to do this? The TV's are pretty self explanatory... but beyond that- What Video Cameras? What Video switcher that could take 4 or 5 inputs? How do I get that video to the TV's? How much of this can I do wirelessly??
Budget-wise, under 5k would be great.

What are you trying to accomplish? Effects? IMag? A 32" stops being impressive at about 3' away from the screen, so I'm not sure that live camera shot stuff would have much impact on a screen that small.

True about the TV size. Let's just call it a couple TV's and leave the actual size out and say it's smaller than 72' but bigger than 24".
Venue size would be around 300 people.
The displays would be for video... maybe still pics, maybe firework effects, maybe live video.
At the most basic level, I'll break it down to this:
[4 Video Sources]-->--[Random Video Selector]-->--[2 TV's]

Get the new BM studio HD 8x2 IxO
Get 2/3 HD PTZ cameras
27" multiview dell monitor
55" TV's would be my minimum IMO otherwise...no point.
Run SDI everywhere.
Done. Profit?

Haha, true the $5k budget is lacking. I'm assuming labor is free as it is his house venue?
The Studio HD helps coming in at $950.
TV's are cheap ~$300-500ea say two of those.
SDI cabling $150 for a roll of RG6 and some connectors and a crimp tool.
27" Dell 1080p = $150ea
Oh and Monoprice 3G SDI to HDMI Converter 110318 = $100ea
We're at 2k before cameras.
Those are the expensive part. But a couple of cheap PTZ's might work until he can afford more? I don't know anything (much?) about cameras.

I think TVs playing video/fx content is fine. IMO live video is useless with anything smaller than 10' screens. They need to be bigger than real life or the concept is pretty silly.

True, generally I agree if at front of stage. But It could be for further back in the room or at the bar or bathroom or whatever?

Two 10' screens would be bigger than most stages we play on. lol.
To your point- yes, being larger than life is what is needed to make an impact. The main thing I want to avoid is that "aww... it's cute that they're trying" factor. At that point the thousands of $'s would be better spent elsewhere.

Some basic projectors ($200 to $300 on CraigsList) and some white canvas strung up using back drop stands (sizable up to 10 feet) for photography and you'd cover a lot of ground for not much money. https://www.cowboystudio.com/product_p/3000%20support.htm

With Multistream transport it Display port this is old news with the Pi's. The thing is using the computer is fiddly. The wall needs to present as one display to the switcher to be usable.
