Title: Single channel AES50 breakout box
Post by: Brian Jojade on June 10, 2014, 03:18:41 PM
Does such a thing exist?

The concept I was thinking would be a box that you can attach to an AES50 signal and then select which output channel it listens to.  The boxes could then cascade so you can attach multiples along the chain, each picking which to output. This could be handy for things like stage monitors, where you simply lay a single line, then select which channel the speaker is going to be.

If it does exist, it will be a Midas or K-T product, since they own AES50.

Good luck!

Isn't there a company that starts with a B that it could be too?

There is a company starting with B that uses AES50, but I definitively know they don't have anything like what Brian is asking for.

You might be better off looking at one of the DL100 series stageracks from Midas. (possibly the M16 or whatever the smaller one for the M32 is if it's available). The other option could be the KT network bridge but I don't think there are any analog output card options, but I could be wrong

Too bad it's not MADI, or there would be THIS BOX (http://www.directout.eu/en/products/ma2chbox.xt.html).

I would love to see a Dante version as well.

I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this built into active speakers/monitors in the not too distant future.

I would really like a Qbox type unit with Dante, Madi, etc. Being able to check lines and offer a quick fix would be great. I'm sure it would be pricey.

Out of interest, how much would you pay for such a device? And what form factor would you like?

Bear in mind, that because of the way Dante works, you would still have to patch a number of channels to the device, but then you could use a front panel interface to select individual channels for monitoring

I wouldn't be surprised to see 2 channel and 8 channel analog breakout boxes.  2 channel could do mono or stereo, think updated 70v distribution.  8 channel could do stereo plus aux subs, 5.1, 7.1, mains and fills, etc.

Those already exist Caleb.

What doesn't exist is a Dante equivalent of a Ma2chBox...
Or a way to meter a bunch of Dante channels...

It's a bit expensive to use as a meter ;-)

For Dante, a laptop and DVS should be all you need.   Select the free software of your choice. Not as utilitarian as a belt worn type device but.....
