Title: Marketplace rant
Post by: g'bye, Dick Rees on January 18, 2013, 03:48:35 PM
HEY!!!!!

If you want to sell something, give complete information.  If it's a lav or clip-on mic, tell me how it's terminated.

If you say "local pick-up only", GIVE YOUR LOCATION!!!!!

Or if the amp is really a PL230 and your advertising it as a PL236, fix your vert.

I with you all the way on this one Dick. Guess what? No location, no details, NO SALE.

Or listing every single cable and mic as a separate ad. C'mon, 2 50' BNC cables is its own ad???

Just curious, what do you think of people who only post in the Marketplace?

Who are these 'people' you speak of?   ::)  I see no such 'people'.  I see only names without personalities.

/satire, wit

To be fair, I've seen a couple of marketplace posts from users with very low post counts... but I remember their names from earlier versions of PSW...

And what's with the "PM me for pix and info".  If you've got pix, post 'em.  If you've got the info, give it.

I don't understand why sellers aren't required to post prices.

Somewhere between the line of being lazy and being busy..is my guess

The whole point is I'm looking through posts on Ebay, CL, here, there, everywhere. I don't, and I know you don't have the time to send emails, ask for pictures, where are you located and all that other crap. If a seller doesn't post the details, location and price at a minimum I don't give the item of post a second thought and move on.

And what's with FS: Mixer, or FS: speakers. Lazy is all, just lazy people without a clue.

What rips my bus ticket is FS ads with no price stated. I know that somewhere in the PT Barnham school of marketing, there is some axiom that states that that the first person to name a price loses but I just can't be bothered with the dicking around. No price = no interest.

Or someone who is posting ALL IN CAPS... I'm just looking at it, and wondering "Why are you yelling at me?"

Oh well. We can all pass on them... I just wonder why people don't take more of an interest in actually selling their items. It's even more funny when you see the same ad, for the same item(s), for the same price, a couple weeks/months later.

I've been searching for a enclosed trailer and I see so many CL ad's with picture taken in the dead of night. You cant see anything, its a sure fire way for me to pass on it.

Absolutely!!! I saw someone selling a large list of nice gear here (or the other forum) recently, and at then end was the old "make me an offer, no lowballs or dreamers" ....
I just move on when I see that crap... If you can't put a price on your gear, your probably not going to be too happy with the price I want to pay for it. List a price and let's all get on with our lives.

Also... it's 2013, listing items for sale on the internet WITHOUT a picture, just blows my mind.

I can see listing without pictures. My camera takes fairly high res pictures that are generally too big to add as an attachment on message boards. If I was unfamiliar with image hosting sites that will appropriately scale a picture down, then it would be acceptable to request an email for pictures/etc.

Listing without locations or prices, however, is a bit useless.

If you download Irfanview (free), you can re-size your own photos; it's quite easy. :D

I'm sorry, but if you are trying to sell a piece of tech gear to a tech buyer, it is reasonable for you to learn how to resize photos. It is also reasonable to list FOB, price, and any other information that is pertinent to the sale.

I had an uncle who was a baker. Couldn't raise enough dough so he went on the loaf.

But he could resize a picture. ;)

I know it's not a difficult concept, but you do have to remember we're referring to people who don't know where their gear is actually located....

resizing an image (or even hosting an image on something like imageshack) may be a rather difficult concept for someone struggling with their own location.

If you're using windows you can do it with Windows Paint.

If you're using a Mac you can do it in iPhoto.

Either way it's not too hard.

If you're using windows you can do it with Windows Paint.

Or even easier:  Windows Photo Viewer, which I believe is included in every possible version of Windows newer than XP.

No way am I using you, Mac.   :o

If you're using a camera, many cameras now let you set a lower resolution before you take the picture. It may be possible that resizing isn't even necessary.

Picasa can also resize pictures, too. As can just about ANY photo manipulation software ever made. If you're really masochistic, you could do it from the command line with ImageMagick.

Another thing,

I and many others almost exclusively read this forum on their phones through Tapatalk. One gripe about Tapatalk is that it's cuts off most of the title of a post if its longer than your phone's screen. Therefore, don't put all of the information in the title and not repeat it in the post.

There's a listing in the marketplace right now for some XLRs. The quantity of them is in the title of the post but not in the body so I have no idea how many of them he is selling for $50.
