Title: NL2FC - help, how do I take apart ?
Post by: andrew gissing on March 10, 2010, 01:51:25 AM
Hi all,

I feel really stupid in asking this but i've got an NL2FC that looks like the attached pic.. and I do not know how to dis-assemble it.

index.php/fa/28627/0/

It's a cable i've been asked to repair; i've never used this series of speakon - mine are all newer or older (and NL4 or NL8)

The trouble i'm having is getting the terminals exposed. I'm guessing that I need to do something with the grey sliding jacket but I could be wrong. I know you slide and pull when you unmate from a socket but do you still slide to get at the internals ?

These appear to be like the female jack line connectors - those are a bit counter-intuitive but once you know what you're doing you're fine.

help !

Andrew

There's a little slot on the grey shell that you stick a small screw driver into and it allows you to pop the shell forward and access the terminals.

Not terribly clear, but it's a start.

Have fun, good luck.

This is the one near where it says "open push >" ?

Do you try and push that down, then get the grey thing to slide over.. while the screwdriver is still in the hole and then remove screwdriver ?

I've been trying that maneouvre for a while and figured I was going about it wrong.

Do I persist ?

Andrew

PS: Next time you're in Perth Australia look me up. If I was more switched on about ATL being part of soundwave I would have made contact with you before.

Try the easy way! Step 1: Cut off NL2  Step 2: Install NL4  Problem solved. $4 will eliminate a big headache.

Ok I get it !

I'm glad it's not just me that's having trouble.

The assembly instructions are quite clear and easy to follow - but I guess they designed this plug ONLY to be assembled and never dis-assembled !

Thanks guys,

andrew

In a pinch I had to re-use these ends (on location at a wedding, speaker needed to be moved further away. I had to make a longer cable without any new parts.) I remember poking at it with a mini screwdriver and eventually getting it a apart. But, for the price... you might as well do what everyone else recommends.

I don't have too much trouble with them.  Once you've taken a few apart you know that you have to have the right tools before you start.  What I do like is that they indicate pretty clearly that it's a cable that only has 2 wires in it.  When you see that gray ring you know that you have to keep looking for another cable   Very Happy

+ infinity!

The NL2 stands in stark contrast to many of Neutrik's amazing product offerings.  You'd think it was a knock-off!
