Title: Intro / Tuning Advice ? :)
Post by: Nick Bruce on December 07, 2012, 09:21:57 AM
Hey guys, this is my first post here, my names Nick.

Me and a 2 mates over here in Aus run a little sound hire business :) just started off as a hobby to share the love of trance and good quality, loud music, as the audio game is tiny over here compared to the likes of the UK, there is a huge lack of cracking rigs...

We are pretty amateur and all self taught ... we have just got some new top boxes made (MT 122's) and are having a bit of trouble with eq'ing them nicely.

I'll start with what we are running

Mainly we get hired for outdoor dance party events, so room eq and compensation is not an issue, we are mainly having trouble a) with box resonancies (like crazy ringing sounds at certain freqs) and b) a kinda harsh top end at times ....

We run;

AMPS
1x Crown IT 1000 (high end)
1x Crown IT 4000 (mid range)
1x Crown Itech 6000 (18" sub)
1x Crown Itech 8000 (21" sub)
Jupiter 8 in 8 out system DSP (not using this yet)

2x MT122 (Mog's@speakerplans design)

Loading: 2x 12" P Audio SN 12B Neo
            1x 2" P Audio SD 750N Neo

6 x Martin Audio WSXa (Modified for 21" Driver) 2.1m Hyperbolic Folder Horn
Loading: Precision Designs (Funktion One supplier) 21" PD2154

6x Martin Brother WSX 18" 2.1m Hyperbolic Folder Horn
Standard 18" Martin Audio Genuine 18" driver

We have only just got the new 18" wsx's.... we are currently just running the 6 martin 21"loaded bins as a centre 2x3 mono block, with 2 mt122s per side, hung @ about 3.5m from homemade steel tripods...

So yeah we've just started using the Mt122s, getting some pretty bad resonancy at times from the mids, and the highs are pretty harsh, not really sure where to start with tuning :\ any advice?
