Roland/RSS V-Mixing System
« on: October 01, 2007, 12:47:51 PM »

I know these aren't out yet, but just wondering if anyone has any further insight.  Looks like it could be a nice system.  My local rep said that they would come in under $10K, which is nice for a digital board/snake/split package.

8 Preamps, that's not even going to replace our playback submixer.

It does look cool.

And that wheel seems to be the least ergonomic design for a tactile interface that I've seen in a while.

There are 16 remote controllable pre-amps and 8 outputs in each snake connected with Cat5 cable.  There is an optional install stage box with 32 pre-amps and 8 outputs.

That's more like it.
So really, there are 24 preamps?
16 remote and 8 local?

Looks more interesting now, minus the whole wheel thing.

No, there is 40, 32 remote and 8 local. You can connect 2 of the 16x8 stage boxes or 1 of the 32x8 boxes.

Yeah, I was talking about their "basic" system as listed in the pamphlet.
With only one 16 channel snake you would have 24.

I'm all for rotary encoders, just not where they put it.

Aaron,

I've been under NDA on that product for... a year? Two? It's been a while, and it's gone through a lot of major revisions.

Long story short, it's designed to be the control surface that goes with their digital snaking system... bring however many channels you need, all that sort of stuff.

Hopefully it will be cool, I'll check it out at AES.

Remote preamp / digital snake / Control surface / wireless laptop control = the future of Live Sound IMO

Glad to see the mothership landing finally.

Thanks for posting that link!

Let's see when it actually releases to the public.  My local rep is working on setting up a local demo event.  I'm planning on attending and I'll post a full report.

It's actually expandable up to 48x16 according the press release in June's issue of Live Sound International.
