Sub amps
« on: August 10, 2007, 12:21:51 PM »

Hi there!

First of all thanks all of you guys for making this a great place to pick up things and to discover and learn new things. Anyway. I'm running a fairly decent company up here in Norway.

We've recently bought 24 new subs which I need to get some new amps to. I've been a QSC product guy up until now, but I'm thinking of being more open minded due to this purchase.

Following amps are what I'm considering; Camco Vortex 6, Electrovoice TG7, QSC PL-380 and LAB FP+ 10000. Do any of you guys have any feelings towards these amps. Anyone been doing some A/B tests between any of them?

What are your new subs?  What amps do you have now?

The perfect amp is the one that gives you the amount of power you need at the price you want to pay.

All the brands/models you mentioned are well represented here and I don't think you'll have a problem with any of them.

Is price an issue for you? How about power consumption? What type of subs? If they're Nady dual 15's, it might look a little silly power them with an $5000 Lab Gruppen.

Hi again. Forgot to mention what subs. We've 24 Mach Ballister subs. Price is not an issue really..Anyone been trying the EV TG7 or the LAB FP+ 10000? We've got plx, plx 2 and powerlight 1&2 series in our rental today.

I am a qsc person my self.  However all the units you list have gotten good marks.  I would look at weight, power draw, air flow.  If all your amps draw one way that helps with cooling.  If your amp racks are all the same and you only have one kind in each then its not a problem.

We have seen countless Vortex Series amps fail as of late. And most seem to fail when running the low end. This is what I have been told by angry customers whom used swear by Camco. Sad

The Lab's are great amps.  Another suggestion would be the Crest 8001.  They're great for subs.

Being based in Norway wouldn't the Labs be a good bet as they are Scandanavian and support should no tbe an issue, if there's a problem?

To give you an idea we have had only 2 Labs fail here. 1 was DOA with a faulty power switch. And the other had a bung channel pot.
I have never seen or heard of any FP's or FP+ series amps have any terminal failures in Australia.
