Looking for an International Freight Forwarder
« on: July 10, 2007, 06:34:12 PM »

I'm looking for for a freight forwarder to move some gear from Italy to California. I was wondering if any of you who have experience in Import/Export could help me out finding a company that provides good service and quick results for not too much money. I need options for both the "slow boat" method and air freight. Thanks in advance for any replies!

My Brother owns/operates an export crating/packing company in Louisville.  He has many contacts in the international freight community there.  I'll be happy to get you in touch with him.

What about Rock-It Cargo?  I've used them all over the states and know they work worldwide.

Finally!  A question on the main board I can answer!  Since I am in the import/export business, I see these guys around all the time.  Their rep calls on me every 2 months looking to hustle business. They can handle what you need from air to ocean to ground freight, LTL/LCL, FTL/FCL, etc.  Since I handle this portion of our business myself, I haven't had a chance to utilize them, and therefore I can not vouch for their efficiency.  However, they are one of the bigger players in the game, and I would imagine prices are pretty fair.

I believe they can handle all of the Customs work for you as well, but you're better of asking them questions like that as opposed to taking it from me.

Cheers,

Pascal,

We use INTEREUROPA to get our gear out of Europe and then Hellmann Worldwide Logistics to get it into the US. In California in particular, however, I've used a branch of Air-Sea Forwarders and they have been excellent.

I think you'll find that the price difference between "slow boat" and air freight isn't worth the savings for mid-sized shipments (a few tons).
