2k Watts @ 4 ohms per channel for under $1300??
« on: April 10, 2006, 02:15:56 AM »

http://www.peavey.com/products/browse.cfm/action/detail/item /112596/number/00511200/cat/89/begin/1/CS%AE+4080HZ.cfm

What are your thoughts on this thing?

I was thinking about moving up to this from my PLX3402 @ like 1200 watts per channel.

2 rack spaces & a 15 amp plug

seems too good to be true

Josh,

I have not heard that amp per se. When I first saw the title of your post, I thought "no problem, Yorkville AP6040". I am not saying the Yorkie is better than the PV. I do own several Yorkie amps, and have never had an issue with them. Do a search on the AP6040, see what folks have to say. I don't intend to steer you away from the 4080, just show you another option.

I just picked one up for sub duty. From what I understand this amp has a higher voltage output than the CS4000, which is good for higher impedence loads, not so good for low impedence. I dont think you want to run this amp at 4 Ohms bridged. I am running mine at 8 ohms per channel, plan on 4 ohms per channel in the future. I looked at the CE4000 and the PLX3402, but ended up with the CS4080 because it has the most power for the dollar, and excellent protection built in. It's a little heavy, but that is what wheels are made for. I have run it up to full power a few times and so far I am happy with the purchase.

A Used Crown 5000VZ shouldn't blow your budget by that much.
