The standard IRC client is mIRC
the server for starlink is either the one Michael Prasuhn posted, or the main one, irc.StarLink-IRC.org.

I use a program called Xircon, with a couple scripts that keep me connected and look cool, and a bot to control certain channels that I don't want to lose operator status on.

If anyone needs help configuring stuff, they can send me an email and I'll guide them along: soundguy@gmail.com

Edit: Oh, and is there any reason why it's not on efnet? That's the largest chat network on irc, and much more reliable.

Cheers

The Lab chat is still broken, it's been broken for a long time.

Hey Mikey-->

I was just trying out the app you suggested, and I connected, but how do you get a window to pop up to be in the conversation?  What I did before that was what you said(joined correct server, then went to "join room" in colloquy and it seems to join "prosound", but i'm not sure and like i said, no window pops up.)  But I was last in Linux when I used IRC, so I'm not that familiar with how it works.(that was a while back).

I don't know if its the software or the server, but sometimes you have to keep hitting join several times, and it might take a minute for the window to pop up. I've attributed this to the server latency but I don't know for sure...

Why Sundays?  I always have a gig on Sunday.  Why not Monday?  I just tried to log on, but it's 2 am Chicago time and I guess there're no late nighters. Oh well.

Exactly the same thing I was thinking.

For anyone having connection problems, or anyone who is mIRC retarded like me:

If you don't specify a port range for the server you're trying to connect to, mIRC will default to using 6667, which seems to never work in this case.  The only way I was able to connect was to specify Starlink's port range, which is 6663 to 6669, and 7001.  Enter this under Options > Servers > Add > IRC Server: irc.starLink-irc.org > Port(s): 6663,6664,6665,6666,6667,6668,6669,7001.  You can enter any name you want into Description, I used LAB Chat.  Also, you don't need anything in Group and Password.  Click OK, then click Connect To Server.  After a few port attempts, you should connect on one of the ports you just specified.

After connecting, you'll then have join the prosound channel.  Just type /join #prosound, then hit enter.

Also, there's a currently a problem with WinXP Service Pack 2 built in firewall.  When attempting to adjust or add a server to the unblocked programs list, you won't be able to.  You can't even open the general firewall settings, you'll just get a dialog box that says "Due to an identified problem..."  To fix the problem click here, don't worry it's easy.  After doing so, you'll be able to add mIRC to the list of unblocked programs.
