Certification
« on: June 09, 2004, 08:40:28 AM »

I'm relatively new to the the installed sound market and am looking to become more involved...  Is there an industry wide recognized training course that is a "must" for all installers or designers?  I'm really looking to learn more about installations; any direction towards a training course would be incredible!!!

Thanks,

Dan Z.

Check out www.infocomm.org. They are one of the major places for training and certification. They have online and classroom training in AV basics, install, rental, sales and design. There is a general certification of CTS (Certified Technical Specialist), plus specialty designations for design, install, sales and rental.

Good luck.

SynAudCon is by far the most widely embraced training source for those involved in sound systems and including consultants, contractors, technicians, operators, mixers and manufacturing personnel. Aside from the technical training, attending a SynAudCon seminar proivides the opportunities to meet and get to know others in the field.  The listserv that you can access with your SAC membership is yet another very valuable technical resource, as are the printed TechTopics which are published 6 times per year.  www.synaudcon.com

NSCA has been developing certification for audio technicians under the banner of NICET.

Thanks for all of your help.  There seems to be a lot of information out there.

I am probably going to have several employees in my company take the ICIA certification test.

Question:  Does anyone have access to a 100 question sample test (not the 10 question sample test on the website)?  I called ICIA and they said that it was no long available.

I would like to see how everyone does before actually taking the test.  I don't think that the 10 question sample on their web site is sufficient.

Thanks!
