A 1046 after your DSP isn't something most people would do.

Greg - The amps are a very big upgrade for me, but I have been renting a 9200 to use on my subs for the last couple of events.  I've been very impressed with it so far, and haven't even begun to push the levels out of fear of damaging something without limiters in place.  I also love the fact that if I have an issue, Meridian is right at an hour away so I can get it serviced quickly.  I went with the 8200 so that I have enough power to step up my tops to the U15 or E152 cabs in the near future, and the 9200 will allow me to add another pair of subs to bring my total to 6.  I got tired of barely getting by with the sound and decided to take the plunge.

Stuart - since I don't have much experience in live sound, why wouldn't you put the 1040 limiter/compressor after the processor if the processor has no built in limiting?

Anyone feel like educating me on the proper use of a compressor/limiter? If I return this DRPA+, the simple solution (in my mind) is to pick up a four channel limiter (DBX 1046) and use it in conjunction with my Yorkville Elite processor.

Do not compress. I don't think the 1046 is going to work as well as dedicated limiters. I would save  for the 260 or other mid level DSP and pay to have someone come set up the rig. Get them to show you how to set limiters. There is no substitute for hands on experience

I am paying a pro to set the rig up for me with the new amps and DSP.  I just need to figure out if the DRPA+ can do what I need it to as well or better than my existing Yorkville Elite processor.  If it can't and the "soft limiting" is as useless as it is being made out to be then I need to either return the DRPA+ and get the DR260 (double the cost) or return the DRPA+ and pick up a DBX 1046 to use in conjunction with my Yorkville Elite processor (same cost as the DRPA+).
