Ok Guys i give up!
I just have to live with this heavy stepdown transformer on top of this heavy iron amp. I really like the sound of the 4050hd as compared to my plx 3602. Funny i was planning on buying two rmx 5050 to power my 4 EV qrx 218, wont happen now that i cant convert them to from 120 to 240v. My next option remains the CREST 8002, which seems to work on 120-250volt. However this is a swithing amp. Will this compare to the rmx series thumping bass that i long for?
Thanks everyone.

Crest 8002's are like most "two versions: 90–255 or 180–255 vac @ 50–60Hz factory configured. PowerLok power supply with active power factor correction" Crest 8002 Spec Sheet  - out of luck there mate..

Thanks mate, let me start fishing for a used crest 8002 on ebay if it can perform like the legendary crest pro series. The universal power supply is indeed very attractive and i guess would make it perform better under sagging voltage than the qsc 4050hd.

I don't think you quite understood what i said. The Crest 8002 comes in two models - a 120v or a 240v model. It hasn't got a universal power supply

Really?
The spec sheet says; "two versions: 90-255 or 180-255 vac @ 50/60Hz factory configured PowerLok power supply with active power factor correction". My understanding was that the american versions can oparate on a range of voltages from 90v up to 255volts, which would suit my needs. Is that not the case?

My mistake, that's odd the way that's written out on the spec sheet - making 2 models that do the same thing...

So, the qsc rmx models made some time after 2006 all cant be converted to 240v without replacing the torroidal transformers. I was lucky to land on a mint condition qsc rmx 5050 made in 2005 and i have succesfully converted this to 240v (By connecting the 2 primary coils in each torroid from paralel to serries). Normally this would need to replace the breakers and some small inrush resistors but my amp is working like a champ without further mods.
I was also able to purchase a crest 8002 off of ebay and this worked dirrect on 240v without need for any mods.
Am now a happy man. ;D
