ID this Mic- Grateful Dead
« on: August 30, 2011, 06:33:10 PM »

Hey all,

I was watching a Grateful Dead video from the early '90s and the whole band was using these mics. I've always been curious about them- thought they may be Sennheiser with custom capsule shells. Any ideas?

I remember that this mic was particularly heavy.  We had a few at Theatre Tech.  Maybe Mac Kerr can remember what it was.

This was the closest thing I could find- Sennheiser MD 416-U. Similar but not quite the exact thing.

Ok- sorry to start and end this so soon- I swear I couldn't find any info on this last night but I just stumbled upon the answer in an old newsgroup post-

Milab LSR 1000 or 2000

Priced like a Neumann- The response reminds me of a an AKG C535 with even broader and higher peak in the 5K to 10K

I know we didn't have any Milabs, you are probably thinking of the AKG D330, a damn heavy mic.

It looks like the Crown CM310A that Robert Lunceford posted about Here a few days ago.
