Soooo loving my Yamaha DSR112 and EV ZXA1 kit
« on: May 30, 2011, 05:33:08 PM »

Used to have 2 Yorkville Elite E15's + 2 Yorkville Spectrum 3way 15's + 2 Turbosound 118's + 2 old school JBL loaded plywood monitors. Powered by QSC PLX 1804, Crest CA6, and Crown MT1200.

This new kit is 10x easyer to carry, and even though I probably only have 1/3 of the power I used to have, I have not even close to needing more than that yet.

Played at least 6 small/medium gigs in bars with my band, and we sounded great. Did one DJ gig last weekend, and was worried about not having subs, but it sounded great (room was very boomy, subs would have sounded very muddy I think).

Gonna test my kit as monitors only for a bigger gig next weekend. Big bar, place has over 10K watts of EAW mains and Itech amps, but horrible monitoring system. 2 DSR 112 + 3 ZXA1 should make everyone happy on stage.

Thanks everyone for help in choosing my kit.

I too enjoy my ZXA1's, but i am always cautious using them as monitors on a loud stage (even if it is a bar band).   What style of music are you using them with?

Rock, R&B, etc..... Bar stuff. I just don't run the bass or drums through them if the stage is loud. Mostly vocals and guitar. Sometimes keys.

Love my DSR112's too ;)

I have gigged with them 3 times since I purchased them.

These things really sound great and cover the room exceptionally well.

Great purchase.

UPDATE on bigger gig and using my 2 DSR112's and now 4 EV ZXA1's as monitors, on a loud stage, and 250+ people size venue.

The PA in place was EAW older model tops, and 4 SRX728. Powered by Itechs. Really good kit I found.

All the musicians were happy with their mix, zero feedback, and they all complimented the ZXA1's on guitar and vocals duty. Best part. 4 trips from my F150 to the stage to set up and tear down. YEAH BABY.

I am loving it.

I'm currently using a ZXA1 as a vocal center fill in my club, hanging between 2 EAW LA460's that are hung sideways (yeah, I know they're not designed that way but site lines and ceiling height prohibit them from being hung vertically), and I have to say I love this little box! It has been perfect for fleshing out vocals and other instruments in the center of the room. Gotta love the weight, too.. It's good to see them being used in a different application.
