I'm looking for some ideas for a functional prop microphone that looks like the old style ring announcer mics, something that could drop down out of the ceiling and have that vintage look.  Any ideas?

Mark,
Being old enough to have watched the Gillette fights every Saturday with my father (now almost 90) I can tell you for a fact that the mics used were Shure 55s, almost every time and with few exceptions. I have a number of 55s, including one almost 60 years old and still working, but I wouldn't use a 55 for anything today but as a prop. The Heil is the way to go. Hang it so it will drop down center ring, wrap some medical tape around the connector, dirty it up and your in.

You can get a new 55 with guts from a 58, either SM or beta. He also does Beta 87 guts as well.
