What exactly do you want to do with this "software?"

The question is so broad as to be unanswerable.

Your question is a bit like asking what brand of trailer you should tow behind your F150... you haven't really explained what you plan to use the trailer for, and there are many different types of trailers out there (cargo, travel, car, dump, etc.) that serve many different purposes.

What kind of live sound? What is the nature of the source material?

Mixing for what purpose? Broadcast? Streaming? Live mixing via PC? Recording with post-processing? Providing prerecorded tracks for live musicians?

What are you doing now? What do you mean by "in depth"?

Probably the simplest free application is Audacity, it is used by many people on this forum and can be used on many different platforms (including Windows, Linux, and Mac).

Isn't the Peavey 32FX handling the live mixing?  And assuming that you are using the USB connectivity of the Peavey for recording on the computer, just how much mixing and post-processing might be involved when the only signals provided by the USB connection are the main left and right outputs of the mixer?  The Audacity software that Jonathan already suggested is probably the most common for such basic use and it is free.

If you want to perform multitrack recording or production then you'll need more than the 32FX mixer, a computer and software.  And using the computer for live effects and processing is probably not very practical, especially with the USB connectivity of the Peavey 32FX.
