Dear all,

My church went through renovation and expansion. Now we have a small budget to work on the sound system. At first I was going to get a Mackie VLZ 1604. But then I thought if i get a Tascam 2488 Digital Recording Station, I could also use it to do some recordings for the church choirs and for the priase & worship band. Also use it as the main mixer.

Anyone go this route? Is it reliable to go this route? What are the pros and cons?

A couple things: They only have 4 xlr inputs, the other 4 channels are 1/4".  Phantom power is only available on the xlr inputs.  Don't know what your mic situation is but I'm guessing you're gonna run out of inputs pretty quick.  I'd think about a 16 channel board and if you go that route, do yourself a favor and look at the mixwiz.  With that many channels you could do a nice stereo mix to a laptop for recording.
