I've thought of things comparatively before.  Like, two days of work=this months car payment etc.  You're probably just around SM58's a lot.

Also, I went to a restaurant with friends after church and when I couldn't hear someone across the table from me, my first reaction was to try to bring up their fader.

Kinda,  for me it is more like...

12 days fishing trip = 2 subwoofers

New fishing Reel = ULXP-58

Fishing Hooks & Lures = ULXP-58

700 Yards of 200# test braided fishing line = ULXP-58

Round trip fuel to go to San Diego for fishing trip = 3 X SM58

So if I add it all up my upcoming fishing trip would be a great down payment on an SC48.

Anyone up for a Fish fry in a couple months?

I often compare tanks of gas to family things like kids shoes, kids play stations, private school uniforms, our own entertainment budget, etc

Also I compare larger audio items to things like property taxes, vehicles, insurance, what else I could have spent the money on if I hadn't done audio, etc.

20 years ago though, I remember comparing the price of brand new Cds to tanks of gas.  Today, I compare tanks of gas with small audio items.  Says something about the price of gas, and also about the price of audio items over time.  CDs not so much.

On a different note, while in the music store recently I walked past the projector that's supposed to mimic water ripples in a body of water.  For just a moment, I thought "this is the Stargate, and I am about to enter it".

Another quirky thing I sometimes do when away from home is to inadvertently look for the review button on a TV remote - which by the way isn't connected to a Tivo or DVR.  I do that a lot.  :)

i normally equate things to how many gigs i need to do...

car payment; 1 show
insurance; 1 show
mortgage; 2 shows

etc..

mind you, i don't actually own gear anymore so am just selling myself as a tech (with console, most of the time :))

I base everything on the cost of (vinyl) records.

$25 in fuel, damn - that's like 6 singles!

Heck, I used to compare the price of everything to CD's: "Why would I buy one of those ??  I can get new music for that kind of dough !!"  ;D

All the time!  Even crazier when I think about the things I use on a regular basis.

Beta 58 = Week's worth of groceries

UHFR Dual Combo Kit = A whole lot of new TV's

Yamaha M7CL with 32x16 SB168 System = My car, and then some

Folsom ScreenPro II - A new NICE garage

(4) Barco SLM-R12 = My house

And if my wife was told about how much the cost was of the medical equipment she work with on a daily basis, I think she'd freak out.
