Small Room Speakers
« on: January 23, 2006, 10:58:13 AM »

I have an odd shaped small room and I need to get some quality speakers for this set up.  The room holds 200 people and it is 40 feet by 90 feet.  Along the 90 foot wall is the stage and it has which is circular, with an over hang.  (real bad design for sound) the worship team has a brick wall behind them and an open gap above them.

I would like to get 4 speakers to drop down from the circular over hang on the stage and I am looking for the cleanest sound possible.  The speakers would be mounted "side ways" not "long ways" I would probably need just one sub.

I want to put some tapestries up or a curtain on the brick wall, to keep the monitors from 'bouncing' so much, any thoughts would be appreciated.

It is a strange set up I want to find the best solutions.

Why four loudspeakers ? Three might work.

In order to accomplish good, clean sound you need to carefully select ldspkrs based on architecture, seating layout, acoustics, distance, rigging, required SPL's, etc.

The biggest mistake folks make with do-it-yourself acoustic treatment is not realising that we need to tame reflected energy across a fairly wide frequency spectrum and therefore what is needed is not simply some curtains or music store foam wedges.  In order to absorb lower frequencies ypu weill need thicker curtain/foam and to place it away from the reflecting surface.

The second mistake folks make is to simply assume that absorption is the key. It is not in many cases. Scattering the sound (diffusion) is often the better treatment.

I cannot design the ldspkr system or prescribe an effective acoustic treatment here and without compensation. No one can.

If you wish to solve these problems you need to hire a specialist in sound system design and acoustics.
