power distribution units, power conditioners, surge suppressors
« on: January 11, 2011, 09:27:33 PM »

hi everyone i need some assistance choosing a rack power supply unit to power a setup for small to medium size venue gigs: two to four qsc k12 loudspeakers + ksubs based on various application & sometimes with dj setup (basic turntables/cd players/mixer).

can someone explain the differences between power distribution units, power conditioners, and surge suppressors and which can be most beneficial applied in my setup scenario? also any brand/product recommendations for my setup would be greatly appreciated.

after doing a little research, i'm looking at the tripp lite ibar12-20 ultra20: http://www.tripplite.com/en/products/model.cfm?txtSeriesID=826&txtMode lID=3960

and also the tripp lite lcr2400: http://www.tripplite.com/en/products/product-series.cfm?txtSeriesID=838

please let me know your thoughts!

I don't put any device with it's own breaker before my amp rack. Most units have 15 amp breakers which would trip before the 20 amp breakers at a typical panel.

Since powered speakers contain their own amps, I don't put breakers in front of them either.

I run FOH on a UPS.
