As Steve reply makes the point if you are on a stage with a black backdrop and all they see is a head and hands then it is slimming because they can't see your body.
I don't understand the people that wear black when working outdoors on a hot day in the sun. I wear a long-sleeve white cotton shirt over a colored t shirt when working in the sun to protect my skin. When working shows indoors I always wear black except for setup days where there isn't an audience yet.
I now am going to have to count how many back shirts I have. If I am supposed to look better then just wearing blue jeans I revert to nice black jeans and usually at a minimum a black golf shirt, no logo wear.
