Too Many Black Shirts
« on: August 25, 2018, 09:05:03 AM »

Hey guys and girls,

Guess what I did? I threw away 13 black shirts. I still have over 30 left, but eventually.... The shirts range from T's to dressy button downs and a couple of sweat shirts. I figured since I am running more "business" than sound these days I can actually wear other colors. I'm kind of liking it; shirts weigh a lot less than gear. Another benefit of age.

Has anybody else counted the number of black shirts they own?

Good mixing.

One black dress shirt (I wore to funeral in Jan), and maybe two black T shirts (I'm wearing abdul in my avatar pix, and one other T).

Every few years I go through my swag pile and give away about 75% of it.  I still have way too much.

3 black hoodies (2 with our company logos), bunch of black polo shirts, too many pairs of black pants of various types.

At my age, I'll just wait for black to come back into fashion rather than buy new clothes.

You made me think about how much I dislike the 'roadie' black outfits!
They always remind me of black wheels on cars...no matter how shiny they still look 'dingy.'
FOH folks especially can make a fashion statement!

I switched to charcoal gray back in 2010. Also, no more graphic tees, though I would kill a man for an AbdulEQ tee.

I personally vote for white lab coats, very professional and scientific looking.*

* I am really thinking of the 1973 Jethro Tull Thick as a Brick tour.  I may be mis-remembering some details.  According to Wikipedia the "staff" came onstage before the start wearing white capes.  I remember white lab coats.

And we should address each other on stage as "Dr.". I think men and women look hot in black T-shirts but, alas, they're no longer age appropriate for me (if they ever were). It's Hawaiian shirts all the way now. -F

about 15 years ago i was single and rented an apartment without a Washer, so i would use the local LaundryMat.  I usually liked going in the middle of the day when i could get several machines going at once, since i only did laundry about once a month and so i was washing essentially everything i owned.

One particular afternoon i was sorting my laundry along with several Hispanic people who were carrying on a particularly animated conversation in their native tongue.  My high school Spanish is pretty weak, but i did understand the words "mucho Negro" repeated several times.  I look up and they're looking at my 9 loads of Black and 1/2 a load of "not Black" and laughing.  All i could do was shrug and laugh along...

As my weight has flucuated through the years my sense of style has not. I would not be surprised if I couldn't pull out over a 100 Dickie collar shirts, most of them black.

I have an Abdul tee. I wore it once to a gig and hung it up after that. It's one of my prized possessions ..

Cherish it!

Why in God's name did you keep that picture?  And cropped Ray out?  The best part.

I guess I would have been cooler in a black Showco shirt.

I've just seen a picture of myself at work.

No.

Black isn't slimming.

I can understand crew wearing black so they are unobtrusive, but I often wonder why so many musicians wear black on stages which usually have black backgrounds.  All you see is an instrument, two hands and a face.

As Steve reply makes the point if you are on a stage with a black backdrop and all they see is a head and hands then it is slimming because they can't see your body.  ;)

I don't understand the people that wear black when working outdoors on a hot day in the sun. I wear a long-sleeve white cotton shirt over a colored t shirt when working in the sun to protect my skin. When working shows indoors I always wear black except for setup days where there isn't an audience yet.

I now am going to have to count how many back shirts I have. If I am supposed to look better then just wearing blue jeans I revert to nice black jeans and usually at a minimum a black golf shirt, no logo wear.

IIRC at one time Showco shirts were made by Denton Monogram and they did some that were heather shirts with flocked screening.  I do remember one tour when DM made heather shirts in colors, Red Green Blue and Purple with matching flocking.  Great shirts with the lighter main color and arm and sleeve trim in a darker solid banding.

I never was cool enough to work for Showco.  Mine is either a fake or was a vendor prize.  Either way more of a homage to Showco that trying to be cool.
