Community M4 and Gauss HF4060 replacement diaphragms
« on: August 18, 2018, 03:36:27 PM »

Community has discontinued their M4 replacement diaphragm manufacturing, and Great Plains Audio doesn't manufacture replacement diaphragms for the alnico Gauss HF4060 anymore.
Any clue on some other provider for this parts?
The devices are on working conditions in a soccer stadium here in Argentina.
Thank you in advance.

Alberto,

Looks like the end of an era for those two products, other than the remaining working units scattered around the globe.

Might be time to retrofit the M4 horns with 8" or 10" cone drivers with compression chambers and replace the HF drivers with ones containing easily sourced diaphragms.

How long were HF4060 diaphragms lasting in the stadium, on average?

Hi Art.
Yeah. Some could think that, and it's ok for me. I refuse to drop old things because of that, just because they are old. I prefer to try to keep them working when they do it so well.
This system was designed on early 90's and part of it was installed behind the screen of this soccer field around 7 or 8 years ago.
Sound is amazing and most of the drivers are working from day one, 25 years ago.
As any electromechanical device, some brake just because of time. Until now Community provided spare M4 diaphragms and GPA, Gauss HF4060 diaphragms, for keeping them at hand.
My request is based on the assumption those molds and dies have to be somewhere.
I'm trying to find if somebody is manufacturing those replacements.
Thank you very much for your comments.
Best regards,
