Sennheiser EW IEM Point to Point Setup?
« on: August 18, 2018, 12:42:13 PM »

Hey all, apologies if this has been discussed before - didn't find anything after a cursory search.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anybody knows if it's possible to use a Sennheiser EW300 IEM G3 transmitter and an EM500 G3 receiver in the same band tuned to the same frequency as a wireless Point to Point setup?

I've seen instructions on how to setup a Shure PSM900 and UR4 for PTP use, but unsure if Sennheiser can do something similar.

Thank you!

Yes.
It works perfectly.
I use it for remote speakers all the time.

Yes, it works just fine. All you have to do is tune them to the same frequency, and ***important*** turn off pilot tone on the receiver.

Works perfect, I use my IEM transmitters more for point to point audio than actual IEM use.

With good antennas at each end I've made it 1500 feet with that system across an open field.

How do you use a different antenna at the rx end? AFAIK Sennheiser body pack antennas are molded into place and not replaceable?

To answer the OP: I use Sennheiser IEM system for point to point all the time and it works great.

To tie both thoughts together: I've also used Shure UR1 with SMA to BNC adapter and then directional antenna + a Shure UR5 for point to point audio as well, and this works great. The UR1 obviously gives you fewer options than an IEM transmitter (particularly dialing in exact audio gain structure), but there are enough options to get it done very serviceably.

....

The OP asked about using an EW500 mic system receiver with an IEM transmitter...

You can also look at their ENG packs.

I did miss that ... but then my question would still apply -- just at the transmitting end instead.

Paddle / log antennas at each end.

The question was asking if you could use an IEM transmitter with a Mic Receiver.

Yeah both are rack-mount Tx/Rx systems. Got it setup today and works great! Using a Senny A 2003-UHF Rx in an arena bowl with 1/4 wave rubber duckies on the Tx, about 150' away on the concourse.

ICYMI the IEM transmitter is a 1/2 rack unit with detachable antenna. So, you can use the 1/4 wave antenna it comes with, or BNC to (Sennheiser options) A1031U omnidirectional or A2003 directional antenna, to focus the broadcast area.
