God bless the "Queen of Soul"
« on: August 16, 2018, 04:20:33 PM »

Perhaps this is known by most of you already, but the "Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin has passed.

Growing up in the 60's was a magical time for music of all types and sounds, but nothing was more magical than the soul music of the day, and few if any others could make magic come alive like the great Aretha Franklin. Named "Queen of Soul" in 1965 I can still remember the many times my bands would hire a female vocalist just to sing her songs. The King and the Queen will be making some mighty fine music up above, and too bad for us all there will be no others who can or will ever be able to take their places on this earth.

God bless you Aretha, and say high to BB and the rest of the crew up there for us all. RIP.

If there is a heaven, Aretha would be up there singing a duet with Ella right now. Seeing that that would be worth the price of admission.

A once-in-a-lifetime vocalist.  Glad I was around to witness her talent. RIP.

She was a wonderful vocalist. She leaves behind a huge library of music for our listening pleasure.

I spent many hours this past weekend listening to her on the Sirius/XM tribute channel. I think it was 49. It is there for a week.

RIP

+1000. The band I am currently working with did "Natural Woman" as a tribute, at the end of sound check, the day before she passed. Ears only, not in the PA. I think the only people who heard it was the band, the BME, myself, and maybe the backline guys... I was nearly in tears by the end of it, and unable to speak when I went to thank the MD for making such a fine gesture.

What a voice, and what a loss  :'(

Here's a beautiful tribute from a talented guy on a guitar forum I'm on.
