Crown CM311/AE to Sennheiser 3.5mm?
« on: August 06, 2018, 03:53:44 PM »

Are CM311/AE Red (B+) + White(audio) to tip and CM311/AE shield to ring+sleeve the correct connections to Sennheiser 3.5mm plug? Google is not helping.

Scott,
Unless something has changed recently Sennheiser Evolution 3.5mm inputs on belt-pack transmitters are wired;
Tip = MIC+ and Bias +
Ring = Line Level (instrument at 1M Ohm)
Sleeve = Audio return and Bias return

ALSO NOTE that the unused input (mic or line) must be bridged to ground/sleeve.

I believe that you would want;
Red (Bias +) to Tip
White (Audio signal) to Tip
Shield to Sleeve and Sleeve bridged to Ring as well.

I have not done this myself so...caveat emptor.

That much is right.

That won't work.  Red is the drain and white is the source.  If you put them at the same potential, nothing at all will happen.  https://www.akg.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-masterCatalog_Harman/default/dw8df4fdc2/pdfs/AKG_CM311_Manual.pdf

The Crown CM311 is a 3-wire mic and the Sennheiser wireless transmitter only has two mic wires.  So you need to rewire the mic for common source mode:

Red (drain) to tip (positive bias and signal)
White (source) and shield (ground) connected to each other and connected to ring and sleeve
