Name your favorite small format powered sub
« on: July 19, 2018, 11:04:27 PM »

I'm needing to put together a small system that will be mainly used for folk, jazz trio or quartet, or bluegrass.  Crowd size will be around 200-250.  I'm leaning towards a pair of K10.2's and I'm wanting a sub, or subs, to go with them.  I've listened to a pair of KW181's that I wasn't too crazy about.  Name a sub that I should check out.  Thanks.

What didn’t you like about the KW118? I don’t own any now, but used to have several of them and thought them  to be quite respectable in their class.
I was going to initially suggest the new Yamaha DXS12MKII, but if you didn’t dig the QSC, the Yamaha likely won’t do it for you either.

if you’re going k series tops, the 181 is going to be hard to beat.  They integrate very well and with a touch of eq you can roll off early and control the DJ flab...

JTR Captivator 212 Pro

+1

65-lbs
Real-life output to 40Hz (rated for 39dB +/- 3dB)
Serious SPL
Excellent support from Jeff at JTR

Anyone who knows Jeff understands that he under-promises and over-delivers on everything. The C212Pros are currently my "go to" sub for everything.

AXPONA 2018 - live sound hall measured 100-feet by 60-feet with 25-foot ceilings. 300-ish people in attendance. Two subs were more than enough for the space.

Depth Charge 2018 - outdoor venue at a brewery, 1500-1600 people in attendance. Four C212Pros center clustered and we had plenty of low-end grunt. Took advantage of some free gain, compliments of the stage being corner loaded against the building, but still... holy cats.

And, the powered versions draw about 185-watts each under load. Incredible.

One of my favorite combos is 2 DSR112 with 4 C212Pro.

Tell us about the venues.  Indoors or outdoors?  What sort of size, shape, and ceiling height?

1-2 JTR C212Pros will fill that room with more bass than you could ask for.
