Audio Technica Gen 4 3000 series wireless systems--Up Date
« on: July 15, 2018, 08:51:51 PM »

Audio Technica generation 4 3000 series first impressions.

The Receiver:

-   Slightly larger than the older 300 series.
-   Easy to see display with lots of display options.
-   Scrolling through the menu it seems like it jumps to every other
sub menu choice as you cycle through it.
-   Audio output is set in the menu instead of on the rear panel.
-   All transmitter programming options can be set within the receiver
and uploaded to the transmitter using the IR sync (transmitters can still
be programmed at the transmitter)
-   Can be programmed to have a secondary back up channel ready to go on both
the receiver and transmitter ( I don’t think it will auto switch)
      -    The dual rack mount joining plate used for the older 3000 series receivers
will not work with the new series.

Handheld transmitter:
      -    Very solid feel
-   Interchangeable mic capsules that use the standard Shure style screw on threads and connections.
-   Getting to the on off power switch requires opening up the mics sliding cover to get to the very small slide switch.
-   There is small push button next to the antenna on the bottom of the mic that is
programmable to be a mute, RF mute, back up channel recall or disabled.

Bodypac transmitter:

-   I don’t think it feels as solid as the older 3000 series.
-   Completely different mic connector that is NOT Hirose compatible.
It’s a four pin style female connector on the body pac, smaller than the
HIRSOE with a screw on locking ring on the mating male connector on
the mic cable. The threads are very fine, I can see them getting cross threaded and or over tightened by your everyday casual user.

The new 3000 has more features and is priced higher across the board than the original 3000 series wireless systems.

Not sure why they did not just offer another frequency group in the original 3000 series
packaging and possibly release this new version as a new model group and call it the 3500 series. The body pac mic connector change makes no sense to me considering the number of people who will be looking to replace their 600mhz 3000 series bodypac systems and want to continue to use their inventory of mics.
I did just hear that an adapter cable is going to be available to convert the new style connector to the original Hirose.

Audio Technica now has an adapter cable available that will allow you to use your HIROSE connector mics with the new body pacs.

$40 each seems a little high for something that should be included with the new body pac system that should have had the HIROSE connector on it in the first place.
