When I gave two weeks notice at my last day job they had guards escort me out of the building. I guess that was sort of a vacation.

I have no experience in the corporate world.

When you get the security escort upon tendering your resignation, do you get paid for the time between tendering the resignation and the effective date of the resignation?

If not, I would think that would be considered termination without cause, and the employer could be liable for unemployment benefits. After all, you didn't actually resign, since your resignation was not yet effective, and the employer had no cause -- tendering a resignation should not be considered just cause for termination. If the employer tries to make up a cause, it can be disputed because they did not act on that "cause" until you tendered the resignation.

Like I said, I have no experience in the corporate world, and every time I've left a job it's been on good terms.

You get paid.

It doesn't always happen.  When they closed the GTSC at Motorola I worked at for 8 years I had to sign a PIP like agreement of the work I would finish in my last weeks.  I got paid all my vacation and had all the stock in my ESP account vested.

again I apologize for the veer and making this about me.....

It probably depends on the circumstances. If you were terminated for cause, violating some terms of a contract, it depends on that contract.

I did in fact resign, giving a full 2 weeks notice and planning to work out that 2 weeks, in my attempt to be professional. They chose to let my 2 weeks run off without me on the premises for their own perceived benefit ("bad apple" yadda yadda). To the best of my recollection I was paid what I was owed but that was not my concern at the time.

I have slept very well ever since.  8)

I left on good terms to the best of my ability, but perhaps the circumstance was a little embarrassing to some, who preferred to keep details and discussion about it from the other employees. Being escorted off the premises sounds harsher than it was. Why I left would be a hard topic to avoid in my last 2 weeks if I stayed on the job. The fact that I didn't mention it to anybody before I resigned, caught many coworkers by surprise who thought I intentionally left them without saying goodbye. I was debriefed by close work friends at a local bar that night so at least they got the full picture.

I do understand why it went down like it did. My exchanges with Hartley since then while rare, have been cordial.

PS: FWIW I have never been fired, but was once reduced to less hours when my employer suffered financial setbacks back in the 70s. I  never considered seeking out assistance and started my first business after that. After leaving Peavey I started yet another business. In hindsight it would have been financially wise for me to just shut up and stop arguing. I could have collected a nice Peavey paycheck for several more years, but I value a good nights sleep and being able to look at myself in the mirror.

Quick update if you are not one of the lucky few to be on my social media friend list.

Had a phone interview last night. Now I'm on a plane to Miami, Florida for a face to face interview tomorrow.
