Sometimes company policies are idiotic.

A guy got escorted from a workplace I was at ~20 years ago.  He had resigned to go and work in upper management with the company that owned our company.

He still got the treatment from the security guards.

Again my apologies to Justice for the veer.

I tried to be the professional and gave 2 weeks notice. I planned to leave a neat desk, as neat as possible while juggling knives. The response I got was less than professional and I will just leave it at that.

Good luck with your next adventure.

No worries.

I've already got some leads on some freelance work to keep my busy for the next month or so (Because I took 2 weeks vacation and because of where we are in the pay schedule, I have (I think) two more paychecks from the city still) . And I'm still working on a couple of private consulting jobs that will have a ton of work over the next few months.

Long term, I'm trying to decide if I want to stay in audio, or do something completely different. My father-in-law is a OTR truck driver and getting ready to retire from JB Hunt after 27 or 28 years. He's been doing that since he came back from Desert Storm. So he and I have been talking about that alot.

If I had the money and no student loan debt, I would build a small recording studio and go record classical and acoustic music concerts and performances all over the country.

And still the siren song of barbecue is calling my name.

Truck drivers are in demand now, but before too long it will be automated with self driving rigs. Probably years to make hay before that happens.

Maybe you can do both (drive and cue).

When I read glowing articles about self driving trucks and cars of the near future I have to consider trains.  Trains have a near century head start on cars & trucks, they can only travel on very well defined routes and have a large large and well regulated infrastructure supporting their operation and despite all this they can't seem to get automation working well enough to prevent the occasional fatal crash and accompanying systemic disruption.  Not holding my breath on self driving cars.

How not to leave:

Had an employee that had been warned 2x for drinking on the job, and came into work drunk. They informed him he was being let go, and that he should NOT attempt to drive home, and a paid taxi was outside waiting to take him home. He got in, seemingly resigned to the situation, and the taxi left.

20 minutes later, the taxi dropped him off on the far end of the parking lot. He got in his car, and as soon as he exited the company parking lot onto the street the police car (who'd been contacted by corp security) pulled him over for a DUI...

Lesson - could be worse!

I feel the problem with self-drive is that it will require all, or none. Everything on the road is self drive. Unique roadways, without manual drive. You can't be mixing the co-ordination of "the net" with random acts of little Johnny in dad's F150.......
In other words, keep dreaming.

Or his uncle's red barchetta.
Or Mom's Miata.
Never seen a Barchetta in these parts.
Fiat was "re-introduced" here about 3 years ago. Sold by Chrysler.

Or his uncle's red barchetta.

Re-listening to that song given the current state of self-driving cars is rather...  Prophetic...

Maybe...
