Moving on
« on: July 14, 2018, 09:56:26 PM »

Well, I'm finally moving on from my current/former job. Put in my two weeks notice on Friday, and then took two weeks vacation.

Now I'm looking for something better, which shouldn't be too hard since the bar isn't too high right now.

And still that barbecue trailer sounds fun.

If you own equipment, you can make it move. Best of luck. The market is really good right now.

When I gave two weeks notice at my last day job they had guards escort me out of the building. I guess that was sort of a vacation.

PS: A barbecue trailer (with wheels) sounds practical if you are "moving on".

What would you call a barbecue trailer without wheels? A barbecue hut? (hmm..not a bad name...)

It wasn't guards escorting you out, it was a parade in your honor, don't 'cha know.

A lot of old friends from work were angry. They thought that I quit without saying goodbye.

Security escort at Plant One?  You're such a dangerous guy, JR.... ;)

Yeah, that's the way things have been done for the last 20 years or so:  get the departing employee off the property before she/he can get back on the computer and wreak havoc, shoot up the place or generally be a Grumpy Gus.

I've learned from HR friends the best way to leave a job is to simply not come back - pack up your personal stuff over several days and when there's nothing left that you can't wait to get from security, simply don't show up and email/phone in your resignation.

These days the folks who know a termination is coming is the IT dept, as they lock user accounts before security is called to escort the lucky winner...
