Penny and Giles in my console
« on: June 22, 2018, 03:40:32 PM »

I've had three motorized faders fail in my Midas Pro series console. The repair was easy enough, but I see there is a direct replacement by Penny+Giles. (or maybe a better way of saying this is that Behringer copied the P+G design) Anyway, has anyone put one of these aftermarket faders in their console? How was it different and do you have any thoughts?

My recollection is that P&G motorized faders were hundreds of dollars apiece... Alps made some cheaper ones, but you are probably better of sticking with the Behringer design. There are a bazillion of them in use with fair reliability record.

P&G faders as "after market"  Now that is the funniest thing today.

... Anyway, has anyone put one of these aftermarket faders in their console? ...

I built a DJ mixer in the mid eighties and used P+G long throw faders in it. I should dig it out and fire it up, there probably still just as smooth and silky today.

It's been a while, so the details are a little fuzzy, but I seem to remember that when the switch was made from P&G to MG faders on the PRO Series there were hardware modifications on the fader driver boards and also different firmware required to drive the new faders correctly.

So I very much doubt if you could just 'drop in' a P&G fader to replace the MG ones, even if you wanted to.

Hope this helps
