Ahh the sight you see on vacation
« on: June 15, 2018, 04:57:35 PM »

Seen while vacationing on the gulf coast of Florida at a cove side restaurant and bar. I don’t know what the local code is. I guess it different here than at home.

Yes, I got yelled at for noticing.

Gulf coast, where at? That's my neck of the woods :)

Exposed wiring for overhead bulb string lights is completely to code around these parts :P

This blue connector thingy-ma-jiggy sounds (punny) good to me!

Yes it is, but wire nut to romex is a new connection method, to me at least.

Nathan, we’re in Sarasota until Tuesday.

That seems about right for that area.  At least it's not lamp cable. 😆

Now you're in MY neck of the woods.  And this is how we've always done it 'round these parts. ;D

Direct Bury wire Nuts ?
Wow.
Maybe good in a desert, but the ground in these parts can be rather "moist"
20 years ago I pounded an antenna ground rod below the surface. At the connector I slathered it with silicon grease, and capped it off  with a cut down plastic container (roughly 3"dia by 6" long), also loaded up with the same grease.
Took down the mast a couple of years ago. Dug up the connection, and undid the clamp with a quick twist of a screw driver.
Looked like it had been installed the week before.
The rod, below the "cover" was pretty chewed up.
I wouldn't "direct bury" anything up here that wasn't protected somehow.
Plastic conduit comes to mind.......

Ahh yeah you're in South FL. Other PSW members down there though :)

I'm so used to only our area being called the "Gulf Coast"

The obvious solution is to cover the entire rod with silicone  ;) ;) ;)
