Mackie ~ clues ?
« on: June 15, 2018, 11:02:06 AM »

Hi Folks,

Any clues as to what Mackie is announcing next week? :

 http://mackie.com/blog/master-fader-and-dl-series-live-stream

They say they are giving away a 'tablet' not specifically an Ipad,
so this has me wondering...

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

I was a long time user of the Mackie DL 1608 until replacing it with a Soundcraft UI-24. Folks in the DL user community always gripes about the iOS only aspect of that box.  They bought in anyway...  My guess is that Mackie is going to either release  a new box that supports html5 browsing like the UI or port Master Fader to Android.

The former will annoy what usercommunity is left, the latter wil make the second best tablet mixing app available to more users.

Either way, the horse left the barn for me...  the UI rocks and now with the ability to link 2 UI 24’s via Ethernet 48 x 24 with stage left and right stage boxes and FOH  support via lan, those of us who mix on glass regularly have a pretty attractive setup.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

They're probably going to release a DL404 that looks exactly like the DL1604 and DL806 chasis....but with less inputs.
(I'm being a wise @ss obviously).
But I remember at NAMM a few years back when the DL806 was a big announcement....which was laughable.

So you took your current ipad mix platform, removed 50% of the inputs/outputs, and only cut the price by 20%?
Me to the Rep - How was this a good idea, and who do you expect to buy it?
Rep - People that are afraid of a large 16 channel mixer and are comfortable with a smaller notepad analog mixer.
Me - and those people that want a smaller mixer (and are afraid of 16 channels, which is in the exact same chasis!) are going to want an $800 mixer instead of a $200 dollar notepad mixer?  And/or will not pay $200 more for twice the features?  If they're going digital, and spending that much money, nobody in their right mind would not buy the 1608?  I predict you sell 5 of these DL806s.  (and then he stopped talking to me)

I had the DL1608 and thought it was great at the time.  Mackie needs a quantum leap in order to win back people who have moved on to more advanced products.

Not sure in that but..  it has been in beta for around 6 months.  Danny Olesh offered me the beta group choice.  I was too busy to accept.  I believe they made the formal announcement at InfoComm.  IIRC you can link up to 3 UI-24s though I reserve the right to be wrong...  in my setup I am migrating to a 22” touch screen powered by an Intel NUC.

If the linking thing works out, I’ll be dumping some SI stuff cheap...

Are you in the Facebook ui group ?  It’s been a topic up there.  About the only reason for me to remain on FB these days.

@Jay Marr - The Ui-24r is that quantum leap.  Horse left the barn for this class of mixer.  My .02. - Worth every cent ;-)

I may try the Ui series at some point, they look nice.
I left the DL1608 as soon as the X32-Rack came out.  For my needs, nothing beats the Xrack (yet).
6 Matrix mixes with Xover filters was a game changer for me.  I'm not sure if the Ui mixers have that, but if they do, I'll give them a serious look.

Glad to hear your liking the Souncraft. I'm using a DL1608, and that is looking like my upgrade path, possibly this year. Do you use the internal wifi?

Hi Jay,

The Mackie DL32R has 6 matrix outs, 6 VCAs, 6 SubGroups, 14 auxes, 32 XLRs in, 14 XLRs out, two balanced TRS outs, AES out. 6~24db/octave crossover slopes on outputs.

For 'mixing on glass' as Mal calls it, by far the fastest app for me is Mackie.
The 'Auto' fader select function rocks.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

I run an external router jacked up on a mic stand most nights.  Especially if I’m going to wander.
